Jerusalem Center of The World
This beautiful artist and thoughtful map was published in 1581.
It shows the 3 continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa as 3 leaves of a clovers with Jerusalem at the center.
Jerusalem, Israel is the focus, nexus and crossroad between these 3 worlds of Western, Asian, and African civilizations.
Israel is so multi-cultural and holy to the 3 major monotheistic religions of the world (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism).
Light, healing, peace, and prosperity should emanate from Jerusalem to the whole world and G-d should bless us from his heavenly abode. ;-)

Celebrating Chanukah At Ulpan
Morah Degani had a special night planned for us tonight to celebrate Chanukah.
She called me up to light the candles for the 3rd night and recite the blessing.
Then she played Chanukah songs and we sang along to the Hebrew words on the screen.
We later read and talked about the story of Chanukah and all the meaning and significance of it for having freedom of religion/worship and to maintain our religion and not assimilate.
It was a beautiful way to learn and practice our Hebrew.
Happy 3rd night of Chanukah! ;-)

On The First Night Of Chanukah
Please see my article in The Times of Israel called, "The Lesson of the Candy Lane Menorah."
It was a beautiful ushering in the first night of Chanukah by Chabad of Bethesda, Maryland. The "candy" menorah that they were going to use was somehow destroyed, but Chabad came with a spare--they are terrific...even when things go wrong, miracles can happen, but we have to be prepared like Chabad was tonight.

Aliyah: To Go Up
"As Jewish people yet around the globe plan for their futures, they need to consider carefully “the place that G-d has chosen” and where they and their families will be at the fateful conclusion of the Redemption and the arrival of Mashiach. Perhaps, while the road to Jerusalem requires our dedication and hard work, the choice is not that difficult as the Land of Israel flourishes and the people of Israel yet lives–Eretz and Am Israel Chai!"

Tisha B'Av @Kotel - Ushering In The Redemption
1) The singing of Ani Ma'Amin at the Kotel yesterday in 2018.
2) An amazing NCSY kumzitz, including at the beginning, the singing of Kol Berama Nishma/Rachel Mivakah at the Kotel a few years ago in 2015.
"A voice is heard in the Heavens, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not. Thus saith the Lord: Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the LORD; and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. And there is hope for thy future, saith the Lord; and thy children shall return to their own border. "
Both are so beautiful, and we imagined G-d looking down from the Heavens and being moved to rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and bring his amazing presence closer to us once again on Earth.
Oh let it be! ;-)

Monopoly Yerushalmi
The properties of obviously from famous places in the Holy City of Jerusalem, such as The Kenneset, Mount Olives, Mount Herzl, Hebrew University, Montefiore Windmill, Mahane Yehuda Market, The Biblical Zoo, The Israel Museum, Tower of David, and of course, The Western Wall, and more.
The cards are in both Hebrew and English so I can continue to improve my Hebrew language skills.
I think this is a perfect topic to be thinking about today, which is Tisha B'Av (the 9th day of the Hebrew month of Av).
This is a perfect Shabbat game for after Shul and Kiddish, and I am looking forward to the family sitting down to play Monopoly Jerusalem style.
I want to also note that Jerusalem along with the Holy Temple (may it be rebuilt speedily in our day) is a perfect topic to be thinking about today, because this is the day on the Hebrew calendar when the Holy Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in both 586 BCE by the Babylonians as well as in 70 CE by the Romans after they had laid siege to the city--the exact same day of the calendar year over 650 years apart--and so this is a day of commemoration, mourning, and introspection for the Jewish people. ;-)

Alien Orange Vacuum Cleaner
These big orange overhangs from the lamp poles look almost like big vacuum hoses that are ready and going to suck people literally off the streets.
Can't you just see the people in mid-air suction, arms and legs flailing all around, yelling "Hey, what's going on around here!"?
Hopefully, they don't end up on an alien spaceship somewhere with some weird creatures wanting to explore about us or even use us for food!
Okay, this is what I call Purim spiel--fun for the holiday celebration today.
Seriously though, those orange things are great. ;-)

Walmart Ain't Got Nothing On The Shuk
Vendor after vendor.
Row after row.
Items stocked high for the taking and eating.
From the most delicious foods to Judaica items.
Fresh-baked breads and gooey chocolatey pastries.
Halvah and baklava!
Fruits and vegetables.
Spices, olives, figs, and dates.
Fish and meat.
Nuts, cheeses, and wines.
Candy, coffee, and slushes.
Hamburgers and falafel.
Virtually endless.
Dizzying in a good way from all the people and products.
Like the old times, but anew.
So much life and you never know what you'll find.
It's exciting in a way that big box Walmart will never be. ;-)
