In Case Of Emergency

In case of emergency...

Break glass and eat chocolate.

Always keep a large Hershey's Chocolate around just in case! ;-)

Invasion USA

There's an invasion going on here.

This dragon is swooping over the side of this building.

It's not Hollywood, but downtown Santa Fe.

Shoot it with your laser blaster!

Or else he'll gobble you up and spit out your broken bones. ;-)

Sweet Little Bunny

Wow, what a sweet little bunny.

Surprised s/he let me get so close without hopping away.

The eyes seemed a little bugged out.

Nothing to be afraid of little bunny.

We're not on the survival TV show Alone, so no one here is going to eat you.

Run free and enjoy the garden little bunny.

Life is good for you. ;-)

Out of Control Ice Cream

I'm not sure how you control yourself around this Alpaca Ice Cream.

But somehow I managed not to get any...this time.

I promise!

LOL

These are made with fresh hot waffles wrapped around your choice of ice cream and toppings.

As you can see these are pretty big and scrumptious!

Anyway, they have a store in Rockville and I absolutely must stay away from it.

Oh, maybe I just go in once for a taste.  ;-)

Shakshuka Feast

Just wanted to thank my daughter and son-in-law for a wonderful Shakshuka dinner last night.

This was topped off with Israeli salad, hot bread, and fresh tihini sauce.

To drink was some rich and foamy Israeli beer, wine, and soft drinks.

A Moroccan feast fit for a king!

It was lovely to see how the kids have grown and are able to frankly outdo their parents (-in-laws) on cooking up a real "delicious" storm. ;-)

Fav Ice Cream

So this is one of my absolute favorite ice creams.

Soft chocolate swirl ice cream topped in a hard chocolate shell that literally melts in your mouth.

OMG, this is to die for.

This is not something you get every day...it's a special treat.

They have this ice cream locally in the mall, and sometimes I just go there, literally, just a taste of this.

Usually, I get the small and then share this, but even that is too much really.

It is like a meal in and of itself.

So rich, creamy, cold, and chocolatey flavorful.

Who needs caramel (sitting next to it) when you have chocolate!

Love it, love it, love it.

Yum, yum, yum.  ;-)

Lunch And A Call

This just seemed like a funny photo to me.

In the cafeteria, someone was checking out at the register.

And on their lunch/food tray, they had, of course, their lunch.

But also, they had a big black telephone.

Talking about a working lunch!

Wow, is that customer service or what? lol

This reminded me also of the BIG red phone on some top officials' desks --always ready for that critical call in case of near world catastrophe.

So here we go Joe...

I will eat my lunch and am ready for your call at any time. ;-)

Worst Passover Cake Ever

So this has got to be the worst Passover cake ever.

It's definitely not kosher for Pesach.

Not only is it made from chametz, but it's shaped like a chazer (i.e. pig) too.

This thing would be conceptually treyf even on the best of non-Passover days.

Does it have lard too?

I don't know for sure, but would it really be a pig cake if it didn't!

This lousy cake doesn't even have an ounce of chocolate in it--have you ever heard of a genuine dessert that tastes like the calorie count it adds up to be without chocolate?

I've heard of the callous calling people a pig for eating too much cake and being fat, but making the oink oink face directly on the cake itself--and on Passover--is not only insulting, but at $28.95, it's overpriced too. ;-)

The Makings Of Cold Stone

Gotta hand it to Cold Stone Ice Cream.

They know how it make it cold, sweet, and rich tasting.

Here they are making the signature Cookie Doughn't You Want Some.

French Vanilla Ice Cream

Chocolate Chips

Cookie Dough

Fudge

Caramel

OMG, it is super premium!

And they make it right there in front of you.

As you mouth waters for it, you almost want to just stick you finger in and snatch a bite.

Oh, the simple, sweet pleasures of life. ;-)

Honey Chicken Delicious

Just wanted to share this amazing honey chicken.

Yes, I know you can't eat it, but you can imagine what it tastes like.

Had this at L'Chaim Asian Cuisine and Steak House in Hollywood, Florida.

Absolutely to die for!

That was a lot of honey over the dark crispy chicken.

It's been a few months and I still haven't been able to get it out of my mind.

That is quite a recommendation I would say.

See you there! ;-)

Life Cycles for Carnivores

I thought this was interesting-funny in terms of the the food life cycles for us carnivores:

For meat, it's:
"From farm to fork."

And for seafood, it's:
"From boat to throat."

Either way, we end up eating it.

Just plain hungry or only the strong survive.

Vegetarians and vegans can ignore this post. ;-)

Secret To Long Life

I just love this Tibetan proverb on the secret to long life

"Eat Half

Walk Double

Laugh Triple

and

Love Without Measure,"

The rest is icing on the Tibetan cake.

Shockingly Hungry

So a funny part of my personality is that I can be a little bit of a joker sometimes.

I am a study of human nature, so it can be fun just to get a rouse out of people, by doing something unexpected or even shocking.

Today, going through the airport with my daughter, the TSA security lines were a lot better than what had been advertised lately.

As we get through and are getting our stuff together, my daughter says to me (around breakfast time now): "I'm hungry, can we get something to eat?"

So, I jokingly turn to her with a serious face on and say, "But you already ate yesterday!"

This strange man next to us, stops dead in his tracks overhearing what I said, and gives us the craziest look.

So what do I do having a ball with this?

I repeat even louder and with more emphasis, "Why do you need to eat again?  You already ate yesterday!!"

I am having to hold myself from cracking up laughing as I know this guy is listening and I almost can't wait to see his facial expression.

I look at my daughter who gets it and is playing along and she is also pretending and putting on a sour face like she can't have any food today.

The guy looks like he is about to explode and say something, but decides I suppose to just make a real disgusted kvetchy face and move on.

I was sort of disappointed that he didn't want to help (in his mind) this kid and say something like, "How can you do that--and not feed her every day?"

I would have admired him for actually caring enough to try to help and intervene for someone else, even a stranger.

But I guess the pent up shocked look will have to surface for today's human antics. ;-)

Bricks And Chips

This was quite interesting in the local food store.

There in the aisle are shelves full of chips to eat.

On this shelf were Stacy's Pita Crisps--5 Cheese Flavor...doesn't sound too bad.

But next to the chips, on the same shelf, was a brick...yes, literally a solid brick wrapped in cellophane...why to keep it fresh!

Who would wrap a brick in cellophane and put it out among the other foods to eat???

Maybe the chocolate custard-filled donuts got stale--very stale--and turned into a brick.

So even the cellophane wrapping couldn't keep it fresh.

Never buy baked goods wrapped in cellophane...you already know they are old(ish) and who knows it could be turning into a stale brick. ;-)

Oh Those Crispy Wontons

These were some good-looking crispy wonton chips at the Kosher Chinese.

But I was good, and didn't have a single one!

Dossy was lucky and could have some and she put soy sauce on hers.

It was tempting, but I held strong.

Carbohydrates = Poison.

Carbohydrates = Poison.

Carbohydrates = Poison.

I tell myself over and over.

Do NOT touch.

Do NOT eat.

Do NOT even go near them.

Not so bad...mind over matter.

If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.

Willpower, plain and simple.

Would be easier perhaps with some different "food" genetics.

But grateful for every blessing G-d has bestowed. ;-)

Taste The Snowman

Thought this was quite creative

And probably tasty too.

A snowman made out of vanilla ice cream.

With red fruity eyes.

(and a dangerous--do not eat--green thumbtack nose!)

The hands are little flags from the Silver Diner.

Very cute, festive, and mostly edible. ;-)

Feeling So Naughty

Ok, so Dossy brought home a new snack.

It's from Trader Joe's and it's called Baconesque.

It's popcorn with white cheddar and bacon-like seasoning...it's Kosher (OU, Dairy)!

The sidebar from the man and lady dancing on the packaging says, "I can't believe it's not bacon!" and I'm thinking I can't believe it's just like bacon!

So I tear open the package, and dug in for my first taste of bacon-like popcorn (note: except for imitation bacon bites which my sister used to put on salads, I've never tasted bacon or anything like it).

One handful, two handful...almost puking now.

Yeah, it tastes like I thought it would, but maybe Jews know a little something too...I like a good piece of beef better, much much better.  ;-)

Fish Mish

I took this video in the aquarium store.

Just found it so relaxing to watch these fish--swimming this way and that with their fish pals in the nice cool water.

In the background is the sound of a little waterfall running into the makeshift pond.

Ah, the life of a fish--if you can avoid the nets and the bigger fish--it's probably not too shabby.

I remember when my mom used to make gefilte fish for Shabbos, especially the sweet kind in a sliced up roll, and it was delicious.

For some reason, I remember calling it fish mish--I think because the fish is ground up--and then boiled or baked.

A nice appetizer--pass the tartar sauce please. ;-)

Don't Eat Me, I'm Driving

The Guardian reported today the finding of a scientist in China that prehistoric people used to slash, kill, and eat pandas.

It is hard to believe that anybody would eat anything as cute as a panda bear, but when your prehistoric and starving--perhaps that's a different story.

According to ABC News, when two giant pandas arrived in Washington D.C. in December 2000, people waited in line for 4 hours to see them.

There are only about 130-140 pandas in captivity and U.S. zoos are paying China as much as $1 to $2 million a year to rent these huggable, teddy bear like creatures.

Personally, beautiful creatures like pandas, penguins, seals, turtles, lions, tigers and more are for marveling at and enjoying--not for calorie intake.

One creative individual found a noteworthy way to tell everyone just how adorable s/he felt the pandas are--by getting car seat covers that look just like they are driving around town. ;-)
