Sickened By Russian Atrocities!

How can this be allowed to happen in the 21st century?

Has this world learned nothing about stopping brutal tyrants and genocide?
  • Where is the United Nations?
  • Where is the UN Human Rights Council?
  • Where is the International Criminal Court?
  • Where is NATO?
  • Where is Human Rights Watch?
  • Where is Amnesty International?
Are they all completely impotent and worthless!  ;-)

The Worst Leadership

Way too many "leaders" like this:

I must see where my people are going, so that I can lead them.

These are leaders that are much more followers than any sort of leaders.

Or worse yet are leaders that lead people in the wrong (bad) direction.

In fact, these leaders "sin," but also they cause others to sin as well.

They are bad apples and serve as bad examples to others too!

A good leader is a shining example and mentor and these people are gems to find!

Josep Borrell: A History Of Anti-Semitism

Josep Borrell, the disgraceful High Representative of the European Union strikes once again with his extreme anti-Semitism.

Borrell has threatened Israel that if they follow the United States' Middle East Peace Plan that includes annexing 30% of the West Bank then "it could not pass unchallenged," even though:

  • It is part of the Biblical promised land.
  • Israel won it in a war of self-defense against multiple attacking Arab armies in 1967.
  • It is recognized as absolutely strategically necessary to Israel's peace and security.

Understanding that this is not an isolated incident, Borrell has an anti-Israel and pro-Iranian track record that includes his stating:
Iran wants to wipe out Israel; nothing new about that. You have to live with it.

Borrell's Jew hate apparently goes all the way back to when he was a child and participated in a sickening pogrom in the 1950s where he yelled "To Kill Jews."

Can you imagine that this is who the European Union selects to be their High Representative AND what does this say about the EU after all the atrocities they committed against the Jews: the Holocaust, Spanish Inquisition, Crusades, expulsions and pogroms?

The EU should very publicly dump this anti-Semite Borrell and place him in the trash bin of history where this type of disgusting behavior and hateful sentiment belongs.  ;-)

Vampire Slayer

So can you believe they actually have this?

It's a vampire killing kit that was really for sale in the 19th century.

These kits were developed and sold by entrepreneur, Professor Ernst Blomberg.

People were afraid of the blood-sucking beasts, especially in Eastern Europe.

And so when they traveled, they came prepared.

- Dagger with a ghoulish-looking skeleton for a handle

- Pistol along with several silver bullets

- Wooden stake to thrust into its evil heart

- Cross and Holy Water (or perhaps a Star of David for the Jewish version of the kit) to repel them

Of course, we don't have any evil bloodsucking creatures these days, do we?

I have a feeling that a lot of people would like to have a kit like this for self-defense to keep the 21st-century version of these bad actors away.

You think the NRA would be interested in making something like this. ;-)

Synagogue, To Laugh And To Cry

So I am learning that synagogue is more than a place to worship G-d.

It is a place of and for the people to express their full range of emotions.

Frankly, I think it is a place for people to laugh and to cry.

Rarely, a week goes by when not one or both of these emotions/actions happen.

Yes, we cry out to G-d in supplication and also are joyous in his holy majesty and presence.

But more than that, as a community, we come together to share of our week and ourselves with each other.

One one hand, we laugh with each other at the funny and ridiculous things that happen to us and at the joy we feel for the blessings that G-d bestows on us daily.

On the other, we cry on each other's shoulders at the pain and loss that we (G-d forbid) at times must face and endure in the face of illness, evil, and tragedy.

Just today, both things happened in the synagogue and my heart was at one time uplifted with gladness and then at another greatly saddened with the hurt shared--occurrences of each in just a short span of time.

Yes, we laugh and we cry together--alone, it is at once empty and at the other unbearable.

We need to support each other; there is no other way that is not extreme madness.

Put your arms around another to embrace them in great happiness and to let them cry mightily on your shoulder.

Sharing with each other at our houses of worship--that is how we show G-d that we are bound to Him and to each others' souls--all children of G-d trying to make it together to the next service. ;-)

Iron Maiden Torture

Check this out.

This is called an Iron Maiden.

It is from Nuremberg, Germany.

This one is from Medieval times, but they were apparently still around even in the 19th century!

It has 14 spikes on the inside that were designed to pierce the eyes, throat, and heart.

People placed for torture and death in the Iron Maiden sarcophagus would be completely mutilated.

Is this one of the reasons that so many people suffer from claustrophobia?

I remember seeing in a movie where someone was placed in a dungeon cell, but this one was carved into the rock wall horizontally.

The prisoner would be forced to lie down in it with iron bars caged over the side vertically.

S/he could not sit up, roll over, or move.

Can you imagine the sheer terror and torture?

How people could be so evil and inflict such suffering on others and often for crimes like heresy is extremely hard to understand.

Why in G-d's name does anyone call it the "good 'ol days?"

From Malware To Malevolent People

So in virus protection on the computer, there are 2 common ways antivirus software works:

1) Signature Detection - There are known patterns of viruses and the antivirus software looks for a match against one of these.

2) Behavior Detection - There are known patterns of normal behavior on the computer, and the antivirus software looks for deviations from this.

Each has certain weaknesses:

- With signature detection, if there is a zero-day exploit (i.e. a virus that is new and therefore which has no known signature) then it will not be caught by a blacklist of known viruses.

- While with behavior detection, some viruses that are designed to look like normal network or application behavior will not be caught by heuristic/algorithm-based detection methods.

For defense-in-depth then, we can see why employing a combination of both methods would work best to protect from malware.

It's interesting that these same techniques for recognizing bad computer actors can be used for identifying bad or dangerous people.

We can look for known signatures/patterns of evil, abusive, and violent behaviors and identify those people according to their bad actions.

Similarly, we generally know what "normal" looks like (within a range of standard deviations, of course) and people who behave outside those bounds could be considered as potentially dangerous to themselves or others.

Yes, we can't jump to conclusions with people -- we don't want to misjudge anyone or be overly harsh with them, but at the same time, we are human beings and we have a survival instinct.

So whether we're dealing with malware or malevolent individuals, looking at patterns of bad actors and significant deviations from the normal are helpful in protecting your data and your person. ;-)

The Devil Wolf Attack

So I had one of the scariest dreams that I've ever experienced--and it is a true story from just last evening.

It was so completely real, I can't even tell you.

There was a devil wolf that attacked me from the the back and literally jumped on me.

It's claws were wrapped around my neck and I could tell that with any movement whatsoever, they would immediately slice and sever my arteries completely.

His huge jaws were at the backside of my head, it's hot breath searing my flesh, and his sharp gnawing teeth were ready at any moment to snap into my neck.

His full weight, incredible strength, and evil presence were heavy on me and ripping into my back and shoulders.

It was clear how close I was to the very end of it all.

The pure evil of this devil wolf being and the ferociousness of the attack was the most fearsome that I could ever imagine.

What happened next I will never tell anyone, except that I am alive to tell the story.

But this experience of undeniable and terrible evil so close and foreboding has left me a different person forever.

There are forces of true evil out there--for sure--and we must never let our guard down for a second.

But as Rabbi Nachman says, it is a narrow bridge, but with the good of G-d, we must never fear at all. ;-)

The Eyes Give It Away

Have you ever noticed that eye contact gives it away.

Even for the best poker-faced folks out there--the eyes are the conduit to the soul.

Here's how it works:

- When someone is plotting to do you harm, they avoid looking you in the eye.

Why?

They are afraid, they are going to give themselves and their evil intentions away.

And so they attempt to hide their evil intentions behind closed eyelids, turned heads, and avoided gazes.

They think by avoiding eye contact, you won't be able to read them--seeing into their eyes and their malevolent thinking and planning.

Probably also even the worst of them may actually feel a little guilty (somewhere in there is a soul even if it's mucked up in dirt, corruption, and absolute sin).

- Yet the opposite is true when someone is executing their evil plans--attacking you and wanting to severely hurt you or worse.

Then, they look you straight in the face and in the eyes.

They are staring intently and honing in for the kill.

And in their wide open eyes, rage and evil burns, as they raise their voice and their clenched fists.

Seeking to execute their plots, their eyes come at you, tracking you, targeting you, and attempting to shoot/hit you first and hard.

When evil is there--the eyes are the giveaway--and the person's soul burns dark and deep.

But remember, G-d--the King of Kings--is forever light and He will chase the darkness away.

The L-rd executes darkness.

The L-rd will blind the haughty.

The L-rd will render a mighty justice.

The L-rd will save his faithful. ;-)

Foreboding GW Masonic Memorial

So I took this photo of the George Washington Masonic Memorial.

On one hand, it is quite a large and impressive structure (9 floors and 333 feet sitting atop Shooter's Hill).

It is fashioned after the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, the 7th wonder of the world, that was built after 290 BC, and which guided trade ships into the busy harbor of Alexandria, Egypt.

On the other hand, this memorial is quite spooky in its shape of narrowing ascending floors over a protruding larger base, as well as the noticeable pentagram (often used to signify paganism and the occult) that sits at the top.

There is also the Freemason square and compass with a big G in it built and displayed in the ground in front of the building.

The symbols and the building itself just seem more than a little eerie--whatever the rituals are that go on there.

In a way, I can't stop looking at the photo of this building...it's sort of mesmerizing.

But I feel it somehow has the draw of a dark and foreboding place.

Like the Lighthouse of Alexandria that was destroyed by three earthquakes between the 10th and 14th centuries, I have an unsettling feeling about this as well.

Maybe it's just a feeling...or maybe it's something more. ;-)

The Origin of Government In The Bible

Thought this was a really interesting speech by the Rabbi Haim Ovadia in synagogue today.

The origin of government and the function/dysfunction of society and rule of law is rooted in the in beginnings of mankind as told in the Bible/Torah.

Starting with Adam and Even in the Garden of Eden -- This was pretty much anarchy with only one law at the time not to eat the apple from the forbidden Tree of Knowledge.

Then in Noah's Generation - There was oligarchy with roaming gangs that took the women and committed wickedness.

Followed by the Tower of Babel -- This was communism with everyone united to build and have a common property, a great city and tower reaching to the heavens.

Subsequently Sodom & Gomorrah - This was capitalism with people looking after their own selves and cities, getting spoiled of their material goods, and committing all manner of vices.

And only then in the time of Abraham - There arose democracy with G-d electing Abraham and the Israelites based on lovingkindness and charity.

As we know from the Bible and can see in the chart above, only democracy resulted in blessings for all of mankind.

Yes, the election in the bible was made by G-d, but the notion is one based on "elected" representatives that do good and are a light for the whole world--so no, dictators need not apply!

The Bible is truly a blueprint for us as to how we can live our lives as well as how we can govern the world effectively . ;-)

Hitler Is Kaput

So I was surprised when a great friend wrote to me the other day about Hitler.

And he said that some people say that he won!

He wanted to destroy the Jews and he did manage to kill 6,000,000 of us!

He wanted to conquer Europe (and the world) and he sparked a world war that killed between 50 million and 80 million people, spread fascism, and Germany still today remains the economic powerhouse of Europe.

But killing people, spreading evil, and causing world war is not the sign of a winner by any means--quite the contrary!

And I replied to my friend:

Hitler and the Nazis are gone, dead, and destroyed, and we are here--what a miracle that from the ashes and depths of the Holocaust, the Israelites were redeemed after 2,000 years of exile--and just as the prophecy foretold, Israel was reborn, lives and thrives!

The sick hatred, evil, and fascist values of Hitler and his Third Reich Germany are gone into the dustbin of history and moreover, their very mention or memory evokes disdain and contempt as being the antiChrist and archetype of evil in the world.

Over the weekend, I watched the movie, The Zookeepers Wife and it was terrific.

While the Nazi's perpetrated every conceivable evil on mankind, the righteous among the nations still managed to stand up in the face of evil and save innocent lives, and even when it put their own lives and that of their loved ones in jeopardy--that is true goodness!

The movie showed not only the Zookeeper and his wife who saved over 300 Jews during the Holocaust, but their young son yelled out after the miserable Nazi and said, "Hitler is kaput" or Hitler is finished!

Yes, Hitler and his evil cohorts are destroyed, but in every generation, there are new threats of evil and hate that arise, and to those, we still must bravely and with steadfast determination and strength confront--and those must be made kaput as well. ;-)

There's No Shield Against Loneliness

Loneliness is empty, hollow, a panicky void, and depression.

It's like being in the ocean and feeling so small in its massive depths...almost like drowning.

In the end, you are alone in the universe.

No one can truly feel your pain or joy or experience all of you.

You're a world unto yourself.

You connect and form relationships with others--there is learning and growth and love and caring in that.

Talking and reaching out and being part of someone and something washes away parts of those scary feelings and creates a greater purpose of being and meaning.

But there is also silence and solitude and the darkness of the night.

And in that there is just the faith in G-d Almighty.

He alone is what comforts us as we stare into the vastness out there as well as the evil and loss that we come face-to-face with and combat in life.

The soldier girds his sword for battle and carries a shield to protect himself.

But there is no shield for the loneliness we experience in life and ultimately in death itself. ;-)

Racism--From Our Campuses to the United Nations

So racism is so still alive and disgusting in the world today.

Just this week...

- Students at a major local university here in Washington, D.C. hang bananas from nooses targeting blacks on campus for the 2nd time this school year.  And today, students rally to plead for an investigation and intervention.

- As every U.S. senator has agreed, the Unjust United Nations continues its institutionalized Anti-semitism and unfair targeting of democratic ally, Israel, labeling them an Apartheid state, pushing a grotesque boycott, divestment, and sanction regime, denying Israel's claim to it's ancient and modern day capital of Jerusalem, and falsely targeting them--truly one of the most progressive states in the entire world--as a human rights violator.

Bias, bigotry, prejudice, racism, anti-semitism, hatred, and discrimination--it's all still around us.

Whether your Jewish or Black or Indian or Asian or LGBT or whatever--it's open season from lynching bananas with references to gorillas to targeting the Jewish State with everything from murder to economic terrorism and so on.

Why people want to smash the living daylights out of others and call themselves righteous doing it is beyond a mystery and speaks more to the truth of what's genuinely evil in the hearts of mankind. ;-)

Who Are The Real Animals

So if you want to know who are the real animals in this world...

It's people!

If you can stomach it, watch this graphic video of elephant taming

The elephant is caged, chained, poked, prodded, beaten, spiked in all the sensitive areas.

It is tortured and left with festering sores and then made to do sickening slave labor.

While animals generally kill for food, people abuse, torture and kill for profit and maniacal enjoyment.

Sometimes, we wonder why G-d punishes the world.

But look at how the world behaves.

Is there no heart or soul in some people?

G-d forgive us for our sins and evil inclinations, and have mercy, and make your people better than this, much better. ;-)

The UNITED States of America

Continuing the theme of unity...

I really liked this amazing American flag.

Instead of stars, it has the abbreviations for all 50 states.

Imagine what we can accomplish if we all learn to love each other and band together again.

And know for sure what will happen it this hate and infighting continues.

Unfortunately, there seems to be selfish forces of corruption and evil at play.

Put the country first.

By all means disagree and constructively criticize.

Influence things for the good.

Work together and solve problems.

And let's try to be the UNITED States once again!

What Do We Fear More?

So it's Halloween tomorrow.

It's a holiday to remember those that have passed.

In modern times, it has become a holiday of ghosts and ghouls, spooky and scary.

People dress up often in ghastly costumes, party hearty, and go door to door, trick or treat.

With fright night, I ask myself, are we more afraid of what we don't understand from the spirit world or perhaps of what do understand from people in this life?

Certainly, the supernatural and the spirits--elements of what's awaiting for us on the other side are things we don't really have tangible experience with or understand...we are afraid of the unknown.

But in this world, we are familiar and encounter bad people and deeds, and unfortunately have to deal with them, but it never becomes easier or less scary to confront these.

Sure, we understand that not everyone is good, and not everyone has the best impulse control--people do rotten, horrible things for selfishness and greed or simply because they can't stop themselves.

How scary is it to run into and have to deal with people that can and will do almost anything--maybe without a conscious thought or remorse for doing wrong...perhaps, they might even enjoy hurting others, taking what doesn't belong to them, forcing their will or themselves on others, and doing unthinkable acts of crazed violence and evil.

We are definitely afraid of people like this...they are out of control, and don't add up for those of us who think in terms of a soul, conscience, an everyday moral compass, and a seeing and hearing L-rd above

So life is scary, but death awaits us all as well.

And as my dad used to say, no one has ever come back to tell us what happens over there.

He had the most faith of anyone I know, and I understand we are supposed to have faith that we are going to a better place, but like coming out of the mother's womb into this world, when we die, we are coming out into a whole new place altogether.

New things are scary and going from the physical world to the spiritual one, I assume can also be a little earth shattering--where exactly are we going and how will we be judged when we get there?

Of course, I hope that I will be with my family and with G-d and bask in his eternal light.

Thus for me, I find myself less scared of ghosts and metaphysical things, but the evil that people can bring, behind ghoulish smiles and with hidden agendas, telling lies and fooling us of their evil intent, that is scarier than any ghost or goblin, any time of year on Earth or beyond. ;-)

One Mean Election

Three cheers for one of the worst elections ever.

American politics sinking to new lows.

This poster yesterday plastered all over Washington D.C.

"Bully Culprit"

Denigrating, bashing, hurting, and humiliating other people whether we like them or not is wrong.

- What happened to agreeing to disagree?

- What happened to being civil and mannered?

- What happened to "when they go low, we go high"?

Power is such a motivator.

Greed, according to the Buddhists is one of the "three poisons," along with ignorance and hate.

These lead to evil and suffering and prevent the attainment of enlightenment.

Desire and wanting something so much that you will do anything for it, thinking you deserve it, and being overconfident that you will get are a weakness of character and leadership.

Yesterday, Putin said about our election hysteria, "Is America some kind of banana republic?

Is this really the type of darkness (and not light) to the world we want to show ourselves as.

We are continuing to go in the wrong direction and away from enlightenment and good--especially when there is so much work for us to still be done. ;-)

Money Makes The World Go Round

I remember from years ago hearing this song called, "Money makes the world go around."

It's an unfortunate song.

"The clinking clanking clunking sound."

Then this week, I saw this sign in someone's office.

It was hung under a framed dollar bill, and said:

"VERY IMPORTANT MONEY FIRST"

It doesn't say G-d first, or family, or integrity, or compassion, or anything meaningful and good.

No, instead just money.

What is wrong with people?

Yes, we all need money to live.

Life isn't free.

There are bills to pay and money to be saved for a rainy day.

But, "money first"???

"Very important!"

There is definitely something wrong with some people's values.

They think:

To hell with doing the right thing if you can make lots of money.

To hell with being honest in business if you can make more money.

To hell with earning a decent day's pay for an honest day's work.

No, to some misguided people, it's simply money first.

And money also means power.

More, more, more...at almost any cost that is.

Sell your souls to the devil for a buck fifty.

Is the temporary satisfaction that money can buy you really worth it.

No, money is not first, and never should be.

Money is a means to an end, but never an end in itself.

Money is not the root of all evil, but perhaps underlying greed is.

Take that awful sign down and the dollar bill in the shiny frame at the very top of the wall too! ;-)
