Unfortunately, in the 3rd row, it looks like Mr. Cookie lost an eye.

Farmer Folk

Imagine running into these farmers.

They are a perfect couple.

Look like brother and sister.

In the dark, with a flashlight on their faces, I think I'd take some fright.

And the pitchfork would give me a sharp little pause as well.  ;-)

Shabbat Shalom Bowl and Cup Set

Cute bowl and cup set!

They say Shabbat Shalom to all Y'all!

Quick funny anecdote from today:

When I inquired with a friend about their Thanksgiving dinner yesterday.

They, of course, said they ate too much!

But it was funny as hey said that, they made a big round (belly) sign with their arms.

That image was worth a thousand turkeys. ;-)

I Say Upside Down You Turn Me

I liked this advertisement for WOOW eyewear.

Like the faces, the colors, the upside down and right-side up orientations.

Seems cool, hip, with it.

Happy hippie times. ;-)

Facing Facts on Rosh Hashanah

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, "Facing Facts on Rosh Hashanah."
In a sense, we all live at least two lives–represented by the two faces we wear: The first is the happy face, where we portray ourselves as if everything is going so well, almost near-perfect in our lives (our vacations, accomplishments, celebrations, and so on), and this is the face that we routinely show to the world. Then, there is the second face, which is essentially where everything is not (always) quite so rosy, where life’s challenges, troubles, and hardships take their tangible toll, and this is the face that we learn to keep private and regularly hide from the world. Usually, it comes down to a rationale that goes something like this: just imagine what would people think of us if they really knew us for who we are and what we were actually going through? Yet the funny thing is that everyone is going through something–that’s life!
In a couple of weeks, when we celebrate Rosh Hashanah, we come knowing that there is no mask to be worn in front of our Maker, and truly, we are naked before Him in all our thoughts and deeds. We can’t pretend anymore that our lives or ourselves are perfect, but rather this is the time for true and earnest reflection, repentance, as well as judgment for the New Year based on what each of us is really all about. May each of us have the courage and conviction to face our real selves, to learn, grow, improve, and ultimately to self-actualize, and may we receive G-d’s mercy and blessings for a happy and healthy New Year!

Happy Sock Faces

I just thought these socks with faces were really cute.

I was tempted to even buy some.

But the faces were on the feet.

So you couldn't see them around the ankle when you wear them.

If you wear the socks without shoes then you can see the cartoon faces.

However, then you also wear out these fun socks

I'm in for fun socks.

Just have to get the faces in the right places. ;-)

2 Heads And A House

My daughter took this photo on a trip to Spain.

In America, in front of the McMansions, it is not atypical to see interesting statues (perhaps of lions or fantasy guard creatures), ancient fountains, and even modern art.

I thought this European house was unique with some busts of a man and woman on each side of the gate to the front door.

Wonder whether these are actually supposed to look the owners or are just randomly funny.

Also, the color match the orange house and yellow entranceway sort of perfectly.

Either way, it makes you take a 2nd and 3rd look.

Why is the man bust smiling and the woman bust looking so miserable here (or is that just representative of what most "traditional" marriages are about)?

Wouldn't it be sort of funny if every home had busts or large photos or other representation prominently and widely displayed of the family inside.

No more mystery of who lives there and more warmth and personalization.

When you sell/buy property, you just have to take all of yourselves with you. ;-)

(Note: no idol worship please.)

People That We Meet Each Day

This piece of art sort of reminded me of the Sesame Street song "People In Your Neighborhood."

So, who are the people in your neighborhood?
The people that you meet each day.

We meet and interact with all types of people...funny and nice to mean and scary.

Sometimes, you can see it on their faces--or especially in their eyes--who they are and what are their intentions.

Other times, looks can be grossly deceiving, and we really have no clue who or what we are dealing with--psychopath or good samaritan.

Lately, as I meet or pass people, I see them on two distinct levels:

One is the physcial body they are in...their outward manifestation...the shell or outer casing that houses "them."

Two is the soul or G-dly spirit on the inside...the real them...the part that lived before and will live on even after the outside body is long gone.

Our bodies are just housings for our souls...some people have physical disabilities, almost like a car that has broken parts over time...but what is inside perceives the greater reality and in a sense is both facilitated through and limited by our bodies--whether whole or broken.

Sometimes, I feel like I am just looking right through the person and am really seeing their inner essence soul.

Looks are just outside...inside is the real people we meet each day. ;-)
