Cats of Israel

Just wanted to share these photos of some lovely cats from Israel.

There are so many cats just roaming the streets, shops, gardens, and alleyways.

These don't run from people, but are part of the landscape itself.

Almost like a soul in each one that is living a peaceful life anew in the Holy Land. ;-)

Beautiful Flowers

I just wanted to share these beautiful flowers.

The colors and shapes are so amazing.

It's like you can see G-d's amazing hand in creating these so intricately, delicately and with so much brilliance.

There is comfort in His work and the life He has given.

I am grateful for each day to serve His purpose.

Hope you enjoy the gorgeous flowers. ;-)

What's It's Like To Be A Bag

It's funny, like most of us, my daughter stuffs the shopping bags in the draw or into another "bag of bags" to reuse.

My son-in-law joked about feeling bad for the bags all crinkled up and thrown in with all the others like that.

He drew this little sign on a paper towel, and put it on the fridge:

Bag's life

This is what a crying creased up bag looks like.

Maybe even inanimate objects have feelings too.

As human beings, we can learn to treat everything in the world kindly and with appreciation.

Bye bye baggy. ;-)

Flower Petals In Water

Just wanted to share these absolutely beautiful flower petals floating on the water.

G-d's creations are so wondrous and marvelous.

Frankly, I find it hard to comprehend how He made everything so gorgeous.

There are plenty of challenges for us in this world to keep us learning and growing.

But truly, I love that there is some Garden of Eden paradise in this world too. ;-)

Beautiful Virus, Huh?

So this is an image of the Tobacco Mosaic Virus.

Yeah, I never heard of it either.

It is a virus that attacks and destroys tobacco and other plants.

Viruses are ugly and evil in that they hurt and kill other living things

Yet in looking at this molecular image, I seriously hate to say it, but it is also beautiful in a way.

The shape, color, complexity--the design and wisdom embedded in it--what can I say, but even this too is a miracle.

Sure, it would be better in a mortal sense if there were no viruses to make us suffer and literally eat away at us.

Yet, surely G-d has a plan even for these nasty virus molecules.

Do they help us gain immunity to even worse diseases?

Do they help us to use ingenuity to discover, fight, and evolve to withstand their attacks and progress our society in larger ways?

Do they help us learn however horribly to turn to G-d, strengthen ourselves, and somehow try to cope with suffering and loss in life and death.

All sickness is unbelievably horrible and the suffering it causes is truly impossible to understand, and G-d should please, please have mercy on us.

Yet, looking at this molecular image of even this virus, there is something comforting in the supreme intelligent design and creation of it all.  ;-)

I Love Cherry Blossoms

Just wanted to take today to express my undying love for Cherry Blossoms.

How unbelievably magnificent they are.

Pink pedals blossoming and beautiful.

G-d's creations in nature that make us in awe of his majesty.

It is almost too gorgeous to be real.

To look up at these is more beautiful than I can possibly have words for.

Thank you G-d for giving these to us every Spring season.

It is truly something to look forward to each year and that which nourishes our souls with a complete array of sensory joy. ;-)

Jack Of All Trades

I saw this quote hanging on the wall.

It's by science fiction writer, Robert Anson Heinlein.
"A human being should be able to:
  • Change a diaper
  • Plan an invasion
  • Butcher a hog
  • Conn [control] a ship
  • Design a building
  • Write a sonnet
  • Balance account
  • Build a wall
  • Set a bone
  • Comfort the dying
  • Take orders
  • Give orders
  • Cooperate
  • Act alone
  • Solve equations
  • Analyze a new problem
  • Pitch manure
  • Program a computer
  • Cook a tasty meal
  • Fight efficiently
  • Die Gallantly
Specialization is for insects."

It's sort of fascinating all the things that are expected of people to be able to do.

And this is a short list--I'm sure you can think of many, many more things that people have to be able to do to survive, to live, to thrive.

What complex and magnificent creations of G-d we are!

Not only in terms of our physiology, but also in terms of our cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual capacities and desires.

We are flesh and blood, but with a breath of life from the living G-d, and we are capable and can do so much.

At the same time, we are imperfect, limited, fallible, and mortal.

- Jack of all trades, and master of none.

Expect the best, but plan for plenty of mistakes and disasters along the way.

Live well, and return to the creator a better person. ;-)

Good People And Bad

So what is one of the hardest lessons in life to learn?

There are really good and holy people out there, but there are also truly bad and evil ones.

It's not such a difficult concept, except if you just don't think that way.

I think some of us just want to believe that at the heart of it all, people are fundamentally good--or at the very least they struggle in order to fight off the evil impulse.

They are created by G-d.

They have parents and families.

They have challenges and disappointments.

They have a good soul.

Or do they?

Perhaps like everything in life--G-d created everything and it's opposite.

- There is life and death.

- There is light and dark.

- There is cold and hot.

- There is land and water.

- There is male and female.

- There is pleasure and pain.

- There is work and rest.

- There is holy and profane.

Everything has it's counterpart.

- In this respect then, there are good people and there are bad.

Not that there aren't people who are both--they do some good things and some bad.

Just like with everything, you can have greys or mixtures--some of this AND some of that.

But still, G-d created everything and its opposite.

- Again, there is heaven and hell.

And yes, there are some people that are perhaps truly good and others that are very bad.

The really good ones--they are holy, they give, they love, they inspire.

The really bad ones--they are vicious devil wolves.

That doesn't mean anyone is completely perfect or imperfect, but as with everything, there are people as there are inanimate objects that function at the extremes.

Most of us don't live in the extreme, yet we do see those that we know are examples of each:

We recognize the best and these are people with a heart of gold and a soul that shines light, love, and gives to others.

Similarly, the worst ones are with a heart that is selfish and greedy and a soul that is dark, hateful. and violent.

We don't like to think of the extremes.

They either are too perfect or too frighteningly evil, but yet they do exist and we know it just as we know life and death, light and dark, cold and hot, land and water, male and female, pleasure and pain, work and rest, holy and profane, and even the destinations of heaven and hell. ;-)

5-Minute Intervals

This was sunrise at 5-minute intervals.

All I can think is how glorious G-d is and how marvelous his creation.

- The light of the L-rd chases the darkness away.

- The might of the L-rd brings forth a new day.

- The right hand of the L-rd shows us all the correct way.

How are your works so majestic indeed.

All we can do is gaze with eyes wide.

Truly the perfection of the L-rd is shown in his creation.

We are blessed to see and experience it.

Every day is a miracle that we have in this world.

Even with pain and sorrow, our soul clings to this life.

Until such time that our Maker calls us home to Him once more.

Then we gasp our last breath and enter his Heavenly abode.

For this world is just a corridor to the true world that is to come.

And so just imagine what that must be like to be even closer to G-d and his endless loving majesty. ;-)

What Is Wisdom?

Some thoughts today on what is wisdom:

- Knowing you know nothing--and you can prove it (ah, humility)!

- Knowing when to ask--like the infamous directions when you're lost or how to use the latest new technology.

- Learning from all others (everyone has something they can teach us).

- Wisdom = Knowledge + Experience (you've gotten an inkling about some truth out there, and you've had a chance to test it out).

- Seeing that people's outer bodies are just the superficial, material cover for their inner souls.

- Realizing that doing for others is so much more rewarding than doing for ourselves.

- Following the great truths of morality and responsibility.

- Keen awareness that we are not alone in the universe--G-d is everywhere.

What's With The Water

At this time of some major hurricanes hitting the USA (first Harvey, and now approaching IRMA and Jose)...

I have been remembering from the other day when I was in the pool, but I had a very different experience from usual.

Yes, I was swimming hard and disciplined doing my laps.

But my mind decided to focus on the water.

Just the water...nothing else.

I literally blanked out the world around me...no pool, no exercise, no other people, no current events, no random thoughts.

I just put all my senses unto the water itself.

The cool softness of the water as it glided over my hands and body.

The subtle resistance of the water, yet the buoyancy it provided.

The waves and current as the water flowed around my body moving crisply through it.

The healing purity of the water physically and spiritually.

I imagined the clearest and cleanest water, and how it quenches our thirst and washes everything in the world clean again.

Water, earth, wind and fire...the wisdom and perfection of them and us cannot possibly be random events, but they are testament to the genius of our Creator.

Thank you G-d especially for the water in the time, place, and amount that is for a blessing--and as a series of strong hurricanes continue to roar towards your people, let it be merciful.

G-d Created Evolution

So I've been thinking a little bit about evolution.

And I don't see any contradiction between evolution and creation.

In fact, G-d created evolution!

You see, in His infinite wisdom and love, G-d made his creations with the ability to change over time.

We are not static creatures, but we are able to evolve, adapt, transform, and grow ourselves, our species, and our world over time.

But, but, but...there are fossils hundreds of millions years old...how could G-d have created the world less than 6,000 years ago?

Well, who says G-d created the world at time horizon zero--if the world was fully formed with trees and plants, and fish, birds, animals, and people--then these could all have had age associated with and built into them already.

Boom...G-d just created Adam and Eve--was that from the point of conception, day of birth, or fully grown adult?  Similarly, how old is the tallest mountain or the fullest forest when it was created?

Time is not a function of G-d who is timeless.

And the formed world appears at the blink of G-d's eye and it can disappear that way too.

Similarly, we learn in the Bible how G-d created the world in 6 "days" and rested on the 7th, but who says a day is literally that.

Couldn't a day as in 1, 2, 3, etc. be phases of creation...where a day could be anything from a split second to a millennium or even a hundred million years.

To the G-d who Was, Is, and Will Be--what is a day, but a span of infinitesimal to infinite time to create His children and the world to teach and grow them.

We are here in a infinite universe enveloped by the love of a limitless G-d.

Evolution is no more a constraint on G-d then time or space is--to the contrary, evolution is a blessing of G-d that lets things develop and mature from the image of G-d to the imagination of His mind's glory. ;-)

Flower 4 Monday

Just wanted to share this beautiful flower that I came across on the hiking trail yesterday.

I have never seen a flower with pedals of pink and white candy stripes like this.

Like a candy cane or perhaps the outfits that volunteers helping people at some hospitals wear.

It also has these yellow buds in the center, which add to it's eloquence.

What magnificent creations that G-d has bestowed on us to enjoy.

Hope this is a little something to cheer up your Monday and make you even more productive this week. ;-)
