What Do You Think Of Toll Booths

The Total CIO speaks about the stupidity of toll booths.

Basically, it's highway robbery. ;-)

Cabs R Colorblind

This was funny when a cab pulls up to the curb in Washington, D.C.

And some people walk out from the building and get in.

Call them and they will come.

It's a black and deep orange vehicle.

On the side of the cab is the name, "Yellow Cab Company."

Now why would you paint yourself a (fleet of) orange vehicle(s) and call yourself a yellow cab company?

At least back in New York City, taxis really were yellow--and they were really taxis and had a medallion to prove it!

These days, car ride services like Uber drive around with "U" sticker in the window, where the U is practically closed at the top.

And Lyft cars have that cute, but ridiculous mustache on the front grill.

Taxi services are desperate to get a brand that customers will recognize and want to call.

No more lifting you hand and index (or middle) finger on the street curb to hail one of a blizzard of cabbies racing down Main Street.

Now it push button easy to ride a yellow, blue, red, or orange cab--with or without mustache--anywhere you want to go.

But the more things change, the more they don't stay the same---Next stop already is driverless cars. ;-)

Friendly Sightings 613

So this is a first where other people are contacting us with their experiences seeing 613 (the holy mystical number of Commandments in the Torah).

These two photos of a police car and a no smoking sign are coming to us from South Florida.

Also, I experienced another weird 613 experience this week in that I was number 36 in The Top 100 Most Social CIOs (see the 613).

If you see 613 in extraordinary ways in your life, please feel free to share the them with Dannielle and I.

We hope and pray at this time of Passover (commemorating redemption and freedom) that this is a sign of great mazel and blessing for all our times. ;-)

Loving Your Sheep

I guess people love all sorts of things.

This one lady had a bumper sticker on her truck that said, "I [Heart] Love Sheep."

First, I thought the messaging was about loving "The Shepherd"--either her husband, a paramour, or a reference to the Messiah.

Then I took a second take, and realized, NO not the shepherd, but the actual sheep--she loves.

Well, people love their dogs, cats, horses, and so why not their sheep?

I don't know, but as a "city boy," loving your sheep never would really occur to me, then again I was sheltered in Yeshiva.

Anyway, after I took a quick photo of the professed love sticker, this lady starts yelling after me about why am I looking at her car.

I responded, "No, not the car--the sticker (about the sheep)."

She's like, "Oh, that's okay then!"--like of course, it's about my love of sheep.

So here, this post is dedicated to everyone that loves their sheep or shepard or whatever rocks their particular boats. ;-)

AFRICA Out Of The Back Of A Car

So not what you'd expect from the back of someone's car.

But this guy is selling some pretty nice artwork.

This piece is obviously a colorful painting of Africa.

I took this photo, and the guy popped out of nowhere yelling, "Hey, why you taking a picture of that?"

I said, "Oh sorry!  Didn't mean anything.  It's just really nice."

The guy gives me a funny-grouchy face as I am walking away, and then another guy who is panhandling on the street goes to me, "You know you're right, those really are very beautiful!

So we can all appreciate nice artwork even from the back of a car on the sidewalk of Washington, D.C. ;-)

Speed Of Time

So a friend told me yesterday something interesting about the passing of time.

We were looking back and saying how quickly it all goes...

I said, "Like the blink of an eye!"

He then told me this:

"Time is like the speed of a automobile.

Your age is how fast the car is going.

So for a child of 10-years old, the car is going 10 miles an hour...and it feels too slow.

But for an adult of 60-years old, the car is going 60 miles per hour...too fast--in this case, 5 miles over the speed limit.

The older you get the faster the whole thing goes by."

I told him how much I liked this explanation.

And finished by saying, that in the end, we should just have good memories of it all. ;-)

I Couldn't Do It

No this isn't my car, but it's definitely old.

So we were going to go sell one of our older cars tonight.

One of the warning lights recently went on and when we took it to the dealer he told us it would be thousands to service it.

After agonizing about it, we resigned ourselves to just getting rid of it and not investing anymore $$$ in an old car.

We went to the car to empty it and get it ready.

As I watched Dossy cleaning it out, all these memories started racing through my head--seeing Dossy behind the wheel as well the kids.

Remembering all the good times we had driving here and there together.

But this was Dossy's car and it was special to her and I knew it.

I looked again at her and said, "I can't do it--let's just keep it."

She looked at me--and gave me the biggest smile.

When we went back inside, she said to me, "You love me!"

And I said, "Of course, I do."

Now, we get the car fixed--some things you can't put a price on.

P.S. Last week, she threatened to move out if I didn't agree to fix it. ;-)

Victorian Penny Car

I took these photos in Classic Motors of Washington, D.C.

This car is made of Victorian Pennies from the U.K.

The pennies are special (1837-1901) with an intricate design of British Queen Victoria.

This car is one of only 9 in the entire world.

The sign in the back window says, "This vehicle is not for sale."

It's got to be some job to get all those old pennies on this car.

I remember when we were kids my sister had this long green plastic container for collecting pennies.

Pennies already back in those days were worthless, and it was just a hobby to throw them in and see how many we could collect.

After some years, the thing was so heavy, I could use it for my exercise routine.

So why do we still make stupid pennies...for classic collector vehicles?

Old habits die hard, and the government is a big bureaucratic ship that doesn't turn on a penny or dime or whatever--I think that's the real reason we still do so many nonsensical things. ;-)

Hippie Bus Menorah

I took this photo today of a Menorah made on the top of a VW Bus.

Inside, the bus still had the seats, and outside it had these cute Hippie flower pedals.

It was unique, fun, colorful, nostalgic and it rolls.

Plus you can fulfill the commandment (mitzvah) of lighting candles at Chanukah time.

What a novel piece of Judaica--love it! ;-)

The Chalkboard Car

This is a photo of a chalkboard car.

And on the hood is written "Happy Memorial Day!"

On the side was a design in chalk and on the back even a peace sign.

Wouldn't it be sort of funny if everyone had a car with handwritten messages on it (as long as they were kept clean and non-aggressive).

A little entertainment, humor, how ya feeling today, and more.

It's also nice when we don't take ourselves so seriously and can just have some kosher fun in life. ;-)

The Back To The Future Car

OMG, so cool...the Back To The Future car.

It's the DeLorean sports car on display by Smithsonian Magazine in Washington, D.C.

I love the winged doors that go up, the cool muscle body, and of course being able to time travel.

The past--I'd like to stroll through the Garden of Eden, witness the splitting of the Red Sea and the giving of Ten Commandments, see Samson bring down the pillars on the Philistines, meet King David and worship at the Holy temple, shake hands with Ben-Gurion, and talk with and hug my parents and grandparents again.

For the future...its got to include space travel to other worlds, the eradication of disease and hunger (and by the way the national debt too), and the coolest technology to do everything. ;-)

Nice Wheels

Nice convertible outside Starbucks yesterday.

Something very freeing about a big boat car, with top down, wind blowing through your hair, and everyone looking your way.

Anyway, these folks were having a grand 'ol time--can you blame them--looks like fun. ;-)

The Grafitti Car

So you like your car with a little Graffiti?

Someone here did...it's covered bumper to bumper!

Wonder if this car also is one of those self-driving cars...so it's real special inside and out.

This car can be yours if the Price is Right...no that's a different show.

Anyway, another day of more zany antics and styles coming to you from Washington, D.C. ;-)

Closed And Closed

This is sort of hilarious.

Check out the signs on either side of the road.

- Right lane closed.

- Left lane closed.

Even more stupid, notice that the signs are reversed (the left closure sign is on the right side of the road and the right closure sign is on the left side of the road)...oops.

Thank G-d, there were three lanes--at least for a little while. ;-)

Flower Car

I like this flower car in Washington, D.C.

Different, happy, sort of stylish...

Well it's not sunny Miami, but at least it's interesting here. ;-)

Okay For A Drive By

So, having grown up in New York, I've definitely heard of a drive by shooting, but never a "drive by meeting".

Until a colleague asked me, "Okay for a drive by?"

A little taken aback, but I was available (and figured not in any imminent danger by his type of "drive by"), so I agreed to meet for a few minutes.

The meeting was quick, like a car whizzing by, but we discussed what was needed and accomplished the immediate goal.

Personally, I prefer when someone is driving the meeting, rather than having a drive by meeting, but we all need to be agile to whatever the day brings. ;-)

I Drive This Way (NOT)

I took this photo in downtown Washington, D.C.

Unlike the Google Car, which is purported to drive itself...this one let's the rider sit on top (that's a joke people)!

Doesn't matter if you bend the roof with your butt.

The view is much better from on high, and it's oh so comfortable on the white aluminum with your pants bottom shining it up.

Maybe this is a give-a-way for the next carathon or something equally prizeworthy. ;-)

Riding The T-Rex

Rebecca got me on another mini-adventure today.

The T-Rex scooter had only 3 wheels, but packed quite a punch.

We navigated Las Olas and the Fort Lauderdale Beach pretty good in this thing.

So low to the ground, my hand could touch it, and no windshield so everything sort of just flies right through.

It was only an hour, but as we in this touristy-way waved at the passerbys and speed around town next to the other hulking vehicles, weaving and beeping on this crazy horn, it was a fun time and a good memory. ;-)

You Mess At Your Own Risk

This guy is obviously pretty serious about not messing with his car.

"Touch this car again. You are laser sighted. You will be shot in the face!!!"

I remember in NY, people messed with the cars all the time--nasty stuff like backing or plowing into your bumpers when trying to park, keying cars, slashing tires, knocking off the mirrors, egging the cars, and one guy I remember even had his car stolen and the couple actually had sex in his back seat!

The stupid steering wheels locks to the brakes were a joke for security, the noisy annoying car alarms were so routine no one looked or cared, and LoJack helps you find the clunker again although you may never want to drive it anyway after what the crooks would do to it.

Not sure this sign will help ward off all the crap that people do--somehow they always find another way to be jerks with someone else's stuff.

Aside from James Bond's car that would explode if you tried to mess with it, does anyone else have any good ideas for car protection?  ;-)

Go 2 Shul

My wonderful dad is very religious and enjoys going to shul (i.e. synagogue) every day--multiple times a day.

I love him for who he is and respect his deep religious beliefs and devotion to G-d--my dad truly serves and walks with Hashem.

And I hope and pray that my Dad has many more happy and healthy years to go to synagogue--"Until 120 years," G-d bless!

Often, Dad reminds me how important it is to attend services, especially since I am a more private person who would rather connect with G-d on a more personal level.

To each his own and live and let live.

My wife saw this license plate today and my daughter took a photo of it.

Apparently, this is someone else who either wants to go 2 shul or wants others to go as well.

I'm not sure, but it even looks like they wrote or carved the word "synagogue" on the bumper of their car as well.

Anyway as long as everyone drives safely, it is great to find innovative ways to get the message out there. ;-)
