On Line For 1 Potato

Wow, this guy waited on line at the supermarket to buy one single potato.

That's right, nothing else.

He wasn't a poor guy or anything, just a regular Joe.

I couldn't help myself and said: "what do you do with just one potato?"  ;-)

Floor Full of Flour

That's enough flour for at least a few cakes!  ;-)

Most Popular Grocery Item

Okay and for the $1,000,000 fantasy prize, what do you think is the most popular product at this supermarket?  ;-)

(This is obviously not a real contest or prize!)

Ah, German Chocolate Cake

Ah, that's not a bad looking German Chocolate Cake.

Pecan, coconut, and chocolate frosting.

Wouldn't mind some gooey fudge filing on the inside, a little more icing all around the outside, and some cherries on top.

How can this be bad? ;-)

Rainbow Cake :)

Rainbow cake is happy.

Price is not bad for $3.99.

Calories are horrific at 750!

What happened to the broken blue part of the cake at the bottom--maybe that's where another 50 calories got lopped off.

Anyway, it's Friday and I want to wish everyone a happy Rainbow Cake weekend and a Shabbat Shalom!

Watch A Terrorist In His Evil Action

This is an incredible disturbing video from today's terror attack in Israel.

A Palestinian terrorist is caught on surveillance camera committing his vile deed.

The terrorist in the brown t-shirt comes down the grocery store aisle.

But he is not there shopping for groceries.

Rather, the terrorist is stalking his prey--an innocent Jewish man working in the store stocking shelves for customers.

The terrorist at first takes a pass by the man checking things out.

Then he suddenly circles back pulling a deadly knife from his waist and starts viciously stabbing and beating the Jewish worker.

The mortally wounded victim desperately tries to fend off the terrorist attacker as he comes again and again at him.

Fortunately, others nearby chased the terrorist who was apprehended by police, while the victim remains in critical condition in the hospital fighting for his life.

Unfortunately, this is daily life in the Holy Land, where bombings, shootings, stabbings, vehicular rammings, Molotov cocktails and rocks are used to kill Jews in their one homeland, Israel.

From Paris and London to New York, Orlando, Jerusalem, and all over the world, terrorists continue to plot and murder innocents.

Yet, how often do we make excuses for them--it's not their fault, it's just a minority, they're brainwashed, if only we gave in to their demands, etc. etc. etc.

But does anything really seem to make a difference--more people, more land, more palaces and oil wealth, more respect, more morally corrupt votes at the UN, more, more, more...and still the global radical terrorism and human rights abuses continue.

What happens when one day the terrorist attack becomes one employing true weapons of mass destruction--will anyone really be surprised?

We pray to G-d for peace and security for your people and for evil to be utterly destroyed.

Oh L-rd, how long will you let these murderous, vile terrorists attack your children...how long before justice is done. ;-)

Beautiful Summer Fruit

Wow, how beautiful an array of colorful summer fruit.

Saw this at Balducci's (classy store).

Watermelon, cantalope, pineapple, and mango.

Sliced and all nicely packaged up together ready to eat.

Looks yum!

Amazing what G-d creates.

And he bestows on man the ability to put the finishing touches.

Thank you Oh L-rd, who gives us the delicious and beautiful fruit of the tree.

Yes, it's an unusual blog for Tisha B'Av--maybe I'm craving the food. ;-)

Bricks And Chips

This was quite interesting in the local food store.

There in the aisle are shelves full of chips to eat.

On this shelf were Stacy's Pita Crisps--5 Cheese Flavor...doesn't sound too bad.

But next to the chips, on the same shelf, was a brick...yes, literally a solid brick wrapped in cellophane...why to keep it fresh!

Who would wrap a brick in cellophane and put it out among the other foods to eat???

Maybe the chocolate custard-filled donuts got stale--very stale--and turned into a brick.

So even the cellophane wrapping couldn't keep it fresh.

Never buy baked goods wrapped in cellophane...you already know they are old(ish) and who knows it could be turning into a stale brick. ;-)

Bodega D.C.

This little deli and grocery in downtown D.C. always reminds me of the spanish bodegas back in NYC.

The smallish store has just a couple of aisles of stuffed shelves of all sort of fast food eatsies.

Usually not very organized, but more like you see something from all the grab it type foods and drinks and just go for it.

Signs are handwritten and taped on to shelves, doors, and counters.

Food packages jut out from shelves into the aisles and frequently get knocked down by customers on to the floors of the narrower aisles.

Pour your own cup of coffee or softdrink.

Sandwiches in the back are freshly made while you wait and come heaping with toppings and the price written with a black marker on the celaphane wrapping.

The store is laidback and informal with the proprietor at the counter reading from his newspaper as people come by to check out and he looks up between paragraphs.

Very working class and for students in the area, the lines can get long to the door at lunch hour.

A little unkept and no place to sit and dawdle--this is a get in and get out little neighborhood store.

A big contrast with the cookie-cutter chain stores and franchises--this is mom and pop style. ;-)

Trader Joe's Is Growing On Me

I took this photo in Trader Joe's.

I like how organized (and colorful) they are.

A binder for everything...dairy, produce, bread, cereal, meat, cheese, snacks, cookies and candy, frozen goods, beverages, and flowers, ,

Another binder for training...nice, they care about their employees.

And even for donations--another sign proudly stated that the store had donated $925,000 of goods so far this year...that's pretty amazing!

I previously wrote about 10 Reasons To Love Trader Joe's (and 2 to not), but this store is continuing to grow on me.

Especially with all the healthy eating you can do from there--that's probably the most important reason of all to shop there. ;-)

When You're Feeling Blue...

I was intrigued by this "Rescue Gum."

Whole Foods carries this bright yellow-packaged gum pack (17 pieces), selling it at checkout for just $6.99.

Thinking, they should probably sell this right next to the fruit-flavored "Life Savers."

So this gum is for stress relief, and it's made with 5 flower remedies.

Do you believe in that?

When I looked this gum up online, it says:

- "Keep out of reach of children.

- If pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a health professional before use.

- Excessive consumption may induce mildly laxative effects.

- Not suitable for animals."

Okay, so if you weren't stressed out before reading the warning on this gum, you are now, right?

I think I'll pass on the rescue gum, and head over to the hot bar in the back for some seitan and veggies. ;-)
