Tyson's Corner Wall Art

Thought this was cool at Tyson's Corner Mall in Virginia.

Create your own wall art.

People passing by in the mall, just pull over and start drawing with their fingers in these cool colorful shiny sequin tiles.

One way moves the sequins to one color and the other direction to an alternate color.

Some people went up to draw and then took a picture of themselves next to their artwork.

Everyone loves a little creativity (even in between shopping). ;-)

My New Sneaks

These were my new sneaks for like two hours.

I loved them in the store.

My stylish and lovely daughter helped me pick them out.

Nike bright orange--cool, fashionable.

"Just do it!"

But when I tried them on, I didn't have socks, and had to use the ridiculous thin ones in the store.

The sneakers were snug and I asked for a larger size, which they were out of.

I took the sneakers anyway, hoping they would be okay when I got home, but disappointingly, they were way too tight.

And "the give" that the saleslady said would happen with the sneakers, absolutely didn't.

My foot was being crushed in there.

I think Nike's run small.

Like the look, but not the sizing.

Anyway, saw three people playing soccer in these (or something close to it) the same day.

Orange is the new black. ;-)

Gucci Shoes WOW!

So we're down in Florida.

It's pouring today, so we decide to go to Sawgrass Mills.

When the rain let's up, we decide to go outside to this one row of stores that is like designer row.

We went into Robert Graham, Ralph Lauren (the purple label), Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, and more.

We saw this nice Chasidic couple in Gucci.

He looked at me and me and him--he was buying his wife a gift and I was "window shopping" and taking some cool photos.

We gave each other the thumbs up.

The shoe here was from the Gucci store.

Pretty incredible, no?

It's definitely a brand standout!

Nice job Gucci designers. ;-)

Turkish Lights

Just wanted to share these beautiful Turkish lights that I found in Hollywood, Florida.

We had a delicious lunch at L'Chaim Asian Cuisine and Steak House--the honey chicken was to die for--OMG, it was like candy!

Afterwards, we walked about the shopping strip there and came across this store with these amazing lights.

It was a hookah (not hookers!) store which I am completely not interested in, having never smoked a cigarette or anything my entire life--true!

But these light were gorgeous.

I took these pictures and was even tempted to buy one--loved the colors and happiness of them.

Held off for now, too many nice things, especially since we then followed up with a day trip to Sawgrass Mills today--what an unbelievably huge shopping and outlet mall.

I know it must definitely be time to head home soon, because the shopping experience down here is wearing me down--just kidding, but it's definitely a paradise not only for the beach, but for the shopping fun as well. ;-)

Going Bonkers For Pink

So is this the power of sexuality or branding?

1. Head first for the lingerie sale

2. Picking out pink for that special someone.

3. Forgetting to pay the meter.

All three of these made us laugh.

People are a combination of spiritual and physical beings.

Sometimes the physical takes over and that's when the problems start happening!  ;-)

Some People Got Money

So we're in the mall, and right when you walk through the doors is a car in the entrance hall.

This one is a lovely two-tone 2016 Rolls Royce.

At just a measly $384,025!

Honestly, the car looked awesome.

This was no Hyundai or Yugo.

The thing looked like a tank of art on wheels.

What is amazing is that such an expensive car is on display in the mall...I mean who is the demographic they are trying to appeal to for this?

Well maybe it's not that bad, since another sign advertises a lease option for just $3,469 per month plus tax for 48 months with $30,000 due at signing...so that still runs you over $50K per year to drive this thing.

Well I guess if you earnings millions, what's the big deal anyway!

And out of curiosity, as of 2009, almost a quarter million IRS filings (people and households) show earning of that much or more...nice for them, huh. ;-)

I Think I'll Just Take A Snooze--Right Over Here

This was a funny photo in the mall this weekend.

We are passing by this mattress store.

The sign over the bed says:

"See and feel how a Sleep Number bed adjusts to you"

This family is apparently trying out the new mattress.

They have made themselves quite comfortable--and they sort of just continue to lay there and lay there.

The guy looks like he's watching TV and the mom and daughter are playing something.

We take a stroll around the mall and eventually (maybe 20 minutes later) pass back by this store.

Guess what? These people are still laying on the mattress, and they haven't budged an inch.

They don't look homeless or anything.

Not sure if this Sleep Number is adjusting to them or they are still adjusting to the Sleep Number.

Honey, can you pass the cover. ;-)

Try That On!

So we took my daughter to the Free People boutique store at the Mall.

That brand has such a cool clothing style (although a little pricey)--everything is sort of hippyish, natural, eloquent, cool grunge, and feminine with lace, beads, frills, ruffles, and more.

As we went through the store, we noticed the amazing fitting rooms with heavy tapestry-type curtains and these beautiful flowers hanging plentifully from the ceiling--ushering you to try out their clothes.

My daughter ended up getting a nice bag there, but the clothing also looks amazing and fits perfectly with her fashion sense.

It was interesting for me to learn that Free People was started by the same couple in the 1970's that founded Urban Outfitters.

Two retail success stories--but Free People is not only the cooler name, but the better clothing line.

Be Free People!  ;-)

That's Getting A LIttle Personal

This was a funny advertisement hanging in Hot Topic in the mall.

It says: "Get in our pants"--well, excuse you!

Using sexual come-ons to sell, sell, sell...is not a new marketing strategy.

As they say in the biz world, "Sex sells!"

Perhaps a more targeted ad about quality, fit, and pricing would be more to the product point.

But why sell with facts, when you can sell with fantasy. ;-)

Hair Please Don't

My friend used to joke when someone had a bad hairdo by calling it a "hairdon't."

I took this photo in the mall on Sunday of this mannequin head with hair in multicolors sticking up out of her head in all directions.

Uh, you gotta be kidding--is this actually going to sell anybody on a new hairdo (unless of course maybe you count it's shock value)?

See the mirror lying next to it too, so you can actually see how you would look in one of these get ups--if, of course, you really want to.

When the nice young Asian attendant lady saw me looking at this monstrosity, she runs over like can I help you, seriously.

Yeah, I'm doing some holiday shopping (Chanukah's right around the corner you know), and I'd like to get a new look JUST LIKE THIS!

Not today, but thank you. ;-)

They Ain't Nothing

So Microsoft has tried to do the copycat thing of the Apple Store.

See Apple (top photo) streaming with customers trying out their world-class computers and smartphones yesterday.

See Microsoft (photo underneath) just a few storefronts down in the mall with nice vibrant colors, but just a handful of customers (the non-red shirts) in the entire place.

BTW, I took a look at the iPhone 6 Plus and liked the size (I thought I wouldn't) and ordered one (will be nice I hope to actually see the screen on this thing).

At the same time, I tried the Microsoft Surface, and my wife says to me can you videotape me showing how long it takes to actually try to figure this thing out--piece of garbage!

It was also confusing why the Microsoft store was selling Dells and other companies computing devices--Ah, maybe because they don't have anything competitive of their own???

Microsoft great try with the overall store (Touche!) but you just don't have the retail products to compete with Apple--and the piles of Xbox in the rear of the store to draw people in--that wasn't working either.

Microsoft still a winner at enterprise computing, but Apple hands-down has you on personal computing--everyone to their corners. ;-)

Shout It From The Rooftops

Awesome picture of the sacred Jewish prayer:

"Hear, O' Israel, The L-rd is our G-d, The L-rd is One."

In lights on Tel Aviv Mall in Israel.

(One more from my Cousin Betty--thank you!)

March 24, 2013

Applause, Applause.

I took this photo in the mall at a nail salon.

They were advertising nail art and these were some life-like examples.

At first it seemed weird, these hands, fingers, and nails just placed out there--sitting on a table top.

Not sure whether it reminded me of the hand on The Addams Family or someone giving the finger--lots of them--or everybody applauding.

When I stopped to take a picture, the lady inside tried to convince me to try it and get mine done.

Uh, I don't think so, but those are some very beautiful nails. ;-)

Meet Sammy, The iPhone Guy

Sammy, the iPhone guy, in the Galleria Mall in Ft. Lauderdale was kind enough to talk with me about his experiences repairing smartphones.

Some highlights:

- He learned his trade from watching videos online (Go social media!)
- Smartphones can be taken apart, diagnosed, and fixed in as little as 15 minutes.
- Repairs generally cost between $85-99 and come with a six month warranty.
- Loves the iPhone, but he says Galaxy is a strong competitor.
- Most smartphones are damaged by dropping them without cases on (people love their devices naked).
- Many smartphones are dropped in the pool and in the toilet--but amazingly these can be fixed too!

Thanks Sammy for talking with me today about the ins and outs of the smartphone. ;-)

Flying Gizmo At Brookstone

I took this video of a flying drone at Brookstone at Avetura Mall in Miami.

The drone is flying among the crowds and actually goes right over my head a couple of times--I literally had to duck (as I think the salesperson was having some fun with me recording)!

The device is called the Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 and sells for $299.

The drone is being controlled via wi-fi by a iPhone and also works with iPads and Droid devices.

The controlled flying as well as the stunts seemed easy to do.

It has a front facing camera (and I think the salesperson said it has a rear-facing one too).

You can capture the flight imagery and post the recorded video and still photos online.

The quadricopter has stabilization controls and hull protection to keep the device safe and in the air.

If you appreciate this technology and likes to have some fun, you may want to take this for a little spin around the yard, park, and beach.

Also, watch out at the mall--this flying gizmo may be coming right at you. ;-)
