Square Trees

So I never saw square trees until I visited Palm Beach, Florida.

What's the saying:
"It's hip to be square!"

I definitely had to take a doubletake when I saw these.

Wherever we were going, I was gonna stop and get a photo of this.

These trees are almost as if they are from another planet.

What planet would have square trees?

Hope you enjoy it.

Gucci Shoes WOW!

So we're down in Florida.

It's pouring today, so we decide to go to Sawgrass Mills.

When the rain let's up, we decide to go outside to this one row of stores that is like designer row.

We went into Robert Graham, Ralph Lauren (the purple label), Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, and more.

We saw this nice Chasidic couple in Gucci.

He looked at me and me and him--he was buying his wife a gift and I was "window shopping" and taking some cool photos.

We gave each other the thumbs up.

The shoe here was from the Gucci store.

Pretty incredible, no?

It's definitely a brand standout!

Nice job Gucci designers. ;-)

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival

I love this time of year when the weather gets nice and we can do more outdoor activities.

Today, we took the opportunity to go to the Sugarloaf Crafts Festival.

There were so many vendors with artistic works in metal, glass, art, jewelry, leather, photography, pottery, and more.

Everyone seemed to be looking for those one-of-a-kind special pieces.

I did manage to find a very special colorful menorah, which I had my eye on since last year, and which I was glad that I waited for because the artisan made it even better and more beautiful than before.

Again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and most things were an easy pass on, but some things definitely caught my eye and attention.

The photo here was one of them where the artist was selling pots, and he set up this plastic chicken--as if the chicken was set and ready to go into the oven.

Creativity can definitely get weird, but everyone likes a standout. ;-)

Couple Arguing Loudly About Sex and Pregnancy On The DC Metro {Funny}

This couple is arguing loudly in front of everyone on the Metro in Washington, D.C.

She claims the coming baby is his, and that he needs to take a paternity test.

He says it's impossible that it's his because she's 3 months pregnant and they haven't had sex in 5 months!

This goes on and on in a most hilarious and boisterous way, and they even try and involve some of the innocent bystanders on the train.

Always a show in this crazy town and it's not just the politics! ;-)

These Pants Are In Vogue

I just thought these women's pants were so cool (yet gaudy).

Another standout you think.

A fashion magazine making up fashionable ladies pants.

The covers are bright, colorful, and feature a array of many women and looks up and down each pant's leg.

The pants are a collage of these all.

These pants are probably not for the faint of heart--you've got to have courage to wear these.

Some might say, you'd be crazy...

A ladies next dilemma--what shoes do you wear with these?  ;-)

Big Mouths Alert

So I took this photo in the Museum of Natural History.

As you can see, this hippopotamus has quite a big mouth.

He is also not alive and is behind a glass-enclosed case for viewing.

To me this screams that those with big mouths often don't end up well.

I remember a relative of mine used to bluntly call it, "being full of sh*t."

Whether these people are in politics, your neighborhood, bullies at work and school, or even those in the fake news media...they have become all to somewhat frequent.

Sure there are other animals with small mouths in the same situation, but the hippo truly is a decreasing and vulnerable species.

And like it's neighbor in the museum, the dinosaur--another one who has a big mouth--that ended up extinct, the prospects for talking big, but accomplishing little is sort of part of the character.

The hippopotamus is mostly a herbivore--it has a big mouth and some big sharp teeth, but it mainly eats humble plants and doesn't pursue the hunt of the big game and eat lots of red meat.

Listen, big mouths can still be highly dangerous--words are powerful and can do a lot of damage.

But overall "talk is cheap," especially when people focus on words and not good deeds and who don't have the right intentions. ;-)

Shock Value Gets The Ball Rolling

There is definitely something to be said for shock value.

When you do or say something that is S~H~O~C~K~I~N~G.

And it jolts the other person out of their daily stupor so that they really take notice.

It's hard to stand out in a global population of over 7.2 billion people and counting.

Everyone wants to be special, unique, have an impact, and make a difference.

It's our answer (partially) for why we are here and why it matters.

Our life is a journey and it can be a log slog if we don't have a purpose and meaning in it all.

We look to the One Above for guidance, meaning, love, and protection.

But we also have to look at ourselves in the mirror...what are we doing with our lives.

Shock value doesn't mean real value...it's just the initial jolt to get noticed...like that purple and green spiked hair or those sparkly shoes you adorned.

So you have to take the initial jolt and make it into deep impact--by touching not just a cord, but the nerves that run through.

In Florida, there was a funny sign along the highway with that shock value that said something like this:

"Your Wife Is Hot So Call {X} To Fix Your A/C!"

What did you say about my wife?

You know you're right, I do need to invest in better air conditioning! ;-)

People Nutrition

This is an risque t-shirt this lady is wearing.

It's a big nutrition label.

And she's wrapped in it!

I'm not sure if this is a gag or fashion statement or even a sexual thing.

Is she advertising that she's like the food?

What was really funny though is by her butt...it says

"Moschino chocolate tastes good."

Maybe that should be a black box warning!

Uh, this is way too much information for me. ;-)

Sexuality Sells Sometimes

So this was the entranceway to a store in Florida.

As you can see, the center mannequin is set up sitting in not a very modest way for a lady.

And worse, there is a little boy mannequin situated right next to her.

It was funny to see people stop to look at this fake sexual scene.

But no amount of sexuality could sell the junk that the store was pushing.

So strutting your stuff or showing a little skin--or in this case hard plastic--may get the customer's attention or even in the store.

However, it certainly doesn't close the deal, although something else here would be better off shut or as my mother-in-law says, "close your yap!" ;-)

Survey The Performance

So I was in the Apple store recently and made a purchase to upgrade some technology.

Afterwards, I got an email asking:

"How was your experience with Beverly?

When I opened this my wife saw this and was like, "What the heck is that?!"

We should be surveying the work performance and not the experience with the person.

I can't imagine that super smart Apple didn't see this sort of double entendre about sweet Beverly.

All Apple needed to do was add in the word(s) at the top, shopping and/or at Apple, as in "How was your shopping experience with Beverly at Apple? (rather than burying it in the subtext later)"

But then their customer satisfaction survey maybe wouldn't get as much attention.

Sexualizing the customer experience shouldn't be part of marketing, unless maybe your purposely visiting a shady part of town for unscrupulous reasons.

Anyway, I did respond that Beverly was a definite 5!

Thank you for the wonderful technology Apple and for the experience with Beverly--it was great! ;-)

A Matter Of Hair

I saw these ladies crossing the street in downtown DC.

The standout here was obviously the hair!

The girl on the left had Barbie pink hair.

The one on the right had blond dyed hair with the roots showing.

And the lady in the middle had two-tone hair, with brown on one side and blond on the other (now that was really different).

This reminded me of the hippies' hairstyle in terms of the perhaps rebellious nature of the style.

In Judaism, I remember learning that hair is like the crown on a person's head, and for modesty, the custom is for married women to cover their beautiful hair--it is only something that gets shown/shared with her husband as part of their intimacy.

Hair can say a lot, especially if you are fortunate enough to still have some (lol).

It can be uncombed and messy like a mad professor's, finely brushed and cared for like Trump's, or even transplanted to cover the onset of unwanted bald spots.

Like a horse's or lion's mane, hair frame's a person and can make the plain or even unsightly, more attractive and desirable; at the same time, if not properly cared for and groomed, it can make a person look disheveled and even crazy.

Of course, hair is just what tops off the person and is only skin deep, so looks (including hair) can be defining or oh, so deceiving.

Hair or hairless, groomed or gross--it's a reflection and a statement of how we're looking to each other. ;-)

Noticing The Smallest Beauty

My daughter, Rebecca sent me this photo she took.

A little lady bug on the plants outside.

She told me how important it is to pay attention to the beauty in even the smallest ways out there.

I was very proud of her!

It's not the biggest, the loudest, or the baddest that necessarily makes the most impact in the world.

I hope she (and us) keep on noticing what is really amazing in this world.

Style From Head To Toe

So I took these photos of two young fashionable men.

The first had a very cool "Death" cap on.

And the second had the reddest pair of sneakers, I've ever seen.

Both were stylish standouts!

To me, the hat confronted the scariness of death head-on (excuse the pun) or that the person is themselves, in a sense, death to anyone that starts with them or gets in their way--it is not only bold in terms of the big white letters, but in terms of the courage to face the harshest of all our realities.

Then to the shoes, going red and untied, spoke to me in terms of looseness, comfort, and ease with yourself--you are who you are and the world be darned!

Both the cap and the shoes are in your face and make a statement of cool nonchalance and the daringness to confront "whatever." ;-)

Say It And They Believe It

This was pretty funny in Starbucks.

This guy comes in with a briefcase and sets in down on the table.

He opens it up and proceeds to take out an electronic device--turns out it's his laptop computer.

But on the briefcase, there is a label that says:

"POWERFUL ANTI-TERROR DEVICE INSIDE."

So everyone is looking like there really is something to this.

You can almost tangibly feel them wondering what the heck type of device is this that he is carrying...it must pack a real punch!

Then one person near me, bends over sideways, and whispers in my ear..."Does he really have a powerful anti-terror device inside?"

Like I look as if I'm in the know on these things!!!

I lean back over in the other direction to the other person and whisper back, "No, I'm pretty sure that it's just a gag...the guy must be looking for some serious attention."

And all of sudden, it's as if all the heads around me start to nod, like I stated some amazing insight here or perhaps that they somehow knew it all along.

Anyway, it's incredible what people will believe...if you just state it (in an official way, of course) on your briefcase, a badge, on your forehead or wherever, it's got to be true, because we are so gullible and willing or wanting to believe.

Yes, I believe! I believe!  ;-)

Walking The Pink Carpet

Only in Starbucks Florida...

Does Buddy the bird sing and dance inside the shop next to the coffee drinkers.

Here, my wife was doing some writing for the Federal Communicators Network.

And she is very serious about her writing--and don't bug her when she's into it.

But Buddy was a different story...

He proudly walked right over the iPad pink keyboard.

And then headed for another circuit around the table.

Picking up keys, ripping up the New York Times, hanging upside down, and playing with everyone who was only too happy to pay him attention.

When I asked Buddy if he liked Starbucks coffee, he started bopping up and down like crazy--it was hilarious.

As to my wife's computer and writing, this was about the only thing that she would allow to disturb her.

I was surprised she didn't eat the bothersome bird, but even she had to laugh at his gall to step into her virtual world of writing, brands, and social media. ;-)

Her Hair Was A Hoot

No offense intended, but not going to miss this lady in a crowd.

Orange-hot pink hair, a zebra shirt, big black-rimmed glasses, and a wild bag with dozens of pins all over it.

It was also funny that the sign over her head says, "Orange" to match this lady's hair.

My childhood friends would probably call this a "Hair Don't" like a hairdo, only don't do it!

Sometimes, you have to wonder what people are thinking.

It's nice to get attention, if it's attention worth getting. ;-)

Makeup That Leaves You Wondering

So I was in Macy's yesterday doing some holiday shopping for the girls.

And came across these eye-catching advertisements for MAC cosmetics, especially lipstick.

The one with the mustache lip and the big gap in the front teeth caught attention--like what in the world is that?

And the poster with twenty-one different lips certainly let you know that there is quite a bit that makeup can do to express your lips and yourself.

Overall, thought it was quite an effective advertisement, even if the one with the mustache was a little gender confusing. ;-)

Who's Getting The Attention Now?

I took this photo of this couple online in Starbucks this morning.

It was very hard not to notice this guy's sneakers and socks (on the left).

Hot pink sneakers with matching Homer Simpson pink socks.

I thought to myself that you've got to be pretty bold to go out and wear that.

It's funny how people love attention, and often it seems like they will say, wear, and act any which way they have to in order to get it.

Maybe (good) attention is like currency:

- It's valuable when your noticed (you become instantaneously cool, one to follow, maybe gets into the school or job you always wanted, oh and don't forget all the likes on Facebook or the paparazzi).

- It feels good to have some (who wants to be ignored or looked down on? Positive attention is like an addictive drug to many people).

- You can trade attention with others (they give you some and you give them some--it's like rubbing each others backs, but in this case it's your egos instead).

- Perhaps, you can even save some up in the (memory) bank (where people remember what a great gal or guy you are).

Think about what do you do to get attention and is it something you are proud of or are you acting a little mischievous, naughty, and outlandish to get it?

A Ricksha With A Worthwhile Message

This guy is pedaling this ricksha around town in Maryland, USA.

And it carries messages of hope and peace.

Some examples (visible in the photo):

- "Promote the Olympic spirit."

- "Hope for world peace."

- "Protecting mother earth."

It looks like he could be right off the streets of China or something and transported here to deliver and remind us of these important ideas.

What is interesting to me is that in this day and age of social media and online advertising where messages are often drowned out amidst the daily deluge we get, that here a simple ricksha can grab people's attention and perhaps have a positive influence on them.

With just some subtle messaging along the vehicle's canopy and with pictures and flags around the back.

Perhaps it's not only how much one advertises and promotes, but how thought-provoking and novel it's done.

I don't know how many miles this guy can pedal a day, but I bet he gets more likes than much of the garbage just being throw up online because it's so easy and available for everyone to do. ;-)

That's Good Cookin'

This was a funny picture when we were out west.

This guy is standing on the corner dancing around in his apron and chef's hat.

He's also got a big fat fake mustache on top of his real one and big round glasses/googles on his face.

He is working hard to attract people to come into his restaurant.

This "chef" calls over to us jumping around--doing anything to get our attention.

So we had already eaten lunch, but he did get us to stop and say hello--this picture captures the moment. ;-)
