Comfy Legs

Those legs look comfy in the chair.

Cross, uncross, cross.

Of course, the dress pants and shoes aren't so comfortable.

Do clothes really make the wo/man?

Here, there's no real clothes or should I say person to speak of.

Clothes is better than a fig leaf for Adam and Eve.

Much of clothing is just "look your best" and try to "feel good" vanity.

The soul is what really makes the person.  ;-)

Without a Brain or Soul

Wow, so this is us without a brain or soul.

A real skull, all hollowed out.

Sockets for the eyes, and a big hole where the nose goes.

The ears are gone too.

The skull is sawed open at the top, where the brain goes.

Not much left of the rotting teeth.

The soul is departed and is somewhere in the afterlife.

This should go a long way to humbling any human being.

What's outside really doesn't count for much, and what's inside is everything.  ;-)

You Ended Up In Hell City

So a friend told me something funny.

It was about being given what appears to be a wonderful opportunity, but in reality it's not all roses.

In short, it went something like this:
There was an exciting competition and a prize at the end.
Everyone prepared and worked hard to win it.
But when the competition was over, what was the prize?
The 2nd place was two weeks in Philadelphia.
The 1st place was one week in Philadelphia.

I had to think about that for a second, but that is really pretty funny and true.

No not about Philadelphia, but about life--that what we often mistakenly want so badly and strive for with all our energies, and then only to find out that it really wasn't as good or amazing for us and our families as we imagined.

Yes, very often you set your sights on certain goals to win the competition, but then you find out that the BIG prize ("first place") is really not something to get excited about, because it's in Philadelphia!  ;-)

There is Meaning

Please read my new blog at The Times of Israel called, "Is It Really All In Vain?"
On Sukkot, we read Megillat Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) about "vanity of vanities; all is vanity"--everything is temporal in this world and seems meaningless. Yet in what we perceive as meaningless, there is truly so much meaning when we understand the bigger picture of what is happening to us and perhaps why.

G-d works in mysterious ways and bad things can and do turn into good things too. ;-)

The 3 P's Do NOT Matter

So I heard Joel Osteen give a great speech.

He said that it's not any of these things that make a person worthwhile:

1. Possessions
2. Performance
3. Popularity

But rather, it is a person's inner self and soul that determine their value.

Each person is a son or daughter of G-d.

I agree that our personal worth is a matter of how we act as human beings in choosing right over wrong and good over evil; and it is not based on how much we have, how successful we have become, or how much we are liked.

In the end, a person must return to their maker alone to answer for their actions.

You can't take anything with you.

Materialism and vanity all fade away and only your spiritual inner self will pass over and live on.

So how will you spend your time and attention--chasing vanity of vanities or doing good in all your words and deeds? ;-)

Don't Push The Button

Thought this was a really funny quote about getting your buttons pushed:

"Don't push my buttons without reading the manual."

- Gadgetmobile, Inspector Gadget

In terms of not pushing other people's buttons:

"Remember, you are not dealing with creatures of logic, but with creatures of emotion, creatures bristling with prejudice, and motivated by pride and vanity."

- Dale Carnegie

I Want It To Mean Something

So I took this photo in Starbucks--one of the Baristas in Washington, D.C showing his tattoo.

Not that I am a tattoo guy myself (uh, I'm not!), but I thought this was really an interesting one.

"We The People Of the United States" -- our Constitution establishing our nation, freedom, democracy, and human rights here.

Along with pictures of the Capitol, White House, Washington Monument, and Jefferson Memorial (maybe more around the arm...I don't know).

When I asked him what made him choose this?

He immediately said, "I wasn't originally thinking of a tattoo, but when I did, I wanted it to mean something!"

So this one wasn't just a vanity thing, but has meaning to him and I bet to many others--very cool! ;-)
