Paranoid or Not

Thought this was a great quote on paranoia:

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean someone's not out to get me.

Think about that one a little. ;-)

Hollow Eyes

Wow, scary dude!

Hollow eyes and nose.

No ears.

Mouth sewn (beaded) shut.

Straight from the "other side" (and wrong side of things).

Wouldn't want to run into this person anywhere, anytime. ;-)

Without a Brain or Soul

Wow, so this is us without a brain or soul.

A real skull, all hollowed out.

Sockets for the eyes, and a big hole where the nose goes.

The ears are gone too.

The skull is sawed open at the top, where the brain goes.

Not much left of the rotting teeth.

The soul is departed and is somewhere in the afterlife.

This should go a long way to humbling any human being.

What's outside really doesn't count for much, and what's inside is everything.  ;-)

@Takoma Park Folk Festival

So today we were at the Takoma Park Folk Festival.

It was a combination of food, chachkas, art, dance, and music--thank G-d, it was a good time!

When we were going through the booths, I came across this one artist pictured here.

A little scary looking at first, but actually seemed nice enough and he stopped to speak with us.

I asked about his very cool jacket.

And he told me, how he had actually made it with all the artistic things on it, including spikes, skulls, medals, patches, and even a pair of teeth!

Then he took off his jacket and turned around to show me his vest.

On the back was this awesome fighting foe.

I said feigning surprise:
"Oh, and it says RESIST on top?"

He replies:
"Yeah, never miss an opportunity to share a message!"

I thought to myself this guy is pretty smart, especially as he started to explain not only his jacket, but the meanings behind some of his other artwork.

Creativity is a wonderful thing--especially when no one gets hurt :-)--and it immediately sparks interest and dialogue.

How'd you do that?  What gave you that idea?  How do you use it?

The boring becomes exciting when another soul expresses itself.

Yes, we're all the same, but also we're all different!

It's by "going there," you explore and learn new things.  ;-)

Rock Climbing With Rebecca

So we took my daughter, Rebecca, and a friend indoor rock climbing and it was awesome!

Each of them climbed three walls of increasing difficulty.

They ended with a 5.7 grade climb and did it more or less with ease.

We were yelling "Go Rebecca!" the whole time.

The guy who holds the rope, the belayer, told me its not so much about strength as it is willpower--and that is a terrific lesson not just for kids, but for all of us!

I was really impressed not only with how they climbed so energetically and with such determination, but how much fun they were able to have doing it.

I told my daughter that next time--I hope to climb with her--that'll be interesting (oh G-d help me...).

I took a picture here of the place on the wall for the 5.10 climb, and it was funny for two reasons, it has this crazy looking skull on the wall, and someone taped underneath a note that said "Brush Your Teeth." ;-)
