Celebrating The Holidays
The matching suit and tie with all the decorative holiday ornaments.
The bright red shirt.
The tree hat with the star on top.
And the dark glasses.
Wow, standout city!
Where do you get clothing like this?
I wonder if I could do this with a menorah too. LOL
Happy Holidays to all. ;-)

Happy Hanukah Trader Joe's Style
Trader Joe's has the best food shopping experience, hands down.
They also have the best edible and good tasting fresh, healthy food.
On top of it, they have a nice gift card for a Happy Hanukah!
I vote that we replace the other crummy supermarkets with Trader Joes instead. ;-)

Holiday Earrings With Pizazz
These holiday earrings have loads of pizazz.
Watch them flash red from ear to ear!
The funny thing is no one else even notices.
What an awesome holiday fashion statement from The Nation's Capital. ;-)

Positively Jewish New Years
Coming into the Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) tonight.
Lets everyone stay positive folks--we all have so much to be grateful for and please G-d to look forward to!
Positive is greater than negative (as the shirt says). LOL

Swimming In Florida
In lovely Florida.
Hit the swimming pool.
About to do my laps.
I got my gear and ready to rock and roll.
Please G-d, we'll spend the Jewish holiday of Shavuot (commemorating when we got the Torah) together here as a family.
What more can I ask.
Happy and grateful. ;-)

Happy Holidays!
Took this in South Florida this week.
These two guys from Sweden sitting at the pool wearing these Christmas tree hats.
This was just too great to pass up.
As I took the photo, one guy gave me the thumbs up and this was just perfect.
I don't know about you, but they cheered me up even when it seems that the world is otherwise going crazy--in so many ways.
- Politics
- Divisiveness
- Hate
- Fighting
- Injustices
- Suffering
But at the end of the day, it's about the people--and G-d gives us the power to do good and make happy (or vice versa).
This one made me happy! ;-)

What Did The Turkey Say To The Chicken?
"Misery loves company" -- even with a chicken and turkey.
Someone always has it worse.
Too funny! ;-)
Thank you to my son-in-law for sharing these.

Happy Friendsgiving
Of course, you know about Thanksgiving--when we celebrate with our family all the wonderful things in life that G-d has blessed us with.
Well now there is "Friendsgiving."
This typically occurs on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and is enjoyed with friends (instead of family).
We are still grateful, but we just are thankful with a different set of significant others in our lives.
To me there is nothing like my family--as my father taught me:
Blood is thicker than water.
But friends are important in our lives as well, and good and true friends are so hard to come by--so we should celebrate them and with them whenever possible too.
Finally, I choose this flower, "Bird of Paradise" for this blog, because I love it and it is something wonderful from G-d that I am grateful for.
Happy Thanksgiving and Friendsgiving to All! ;-)

Preparing Simchat Torah Dinner
It was great going to Magen David Synagogue today to help prepare for the big Simchat Torah Dinner tomorrow night.
Then all the prep.
The cleaning, slicing, dicing, mixing, laying it all out, and braising.
Then the cooking--stovetop, and oven.
And before you know, it comes out all done and ready for the scrumptious shul dinner to honor the Torahs.
I want to thank all the women and men that helped out today and many other times to prepare.
But especially, I want to call out Naomi Elimelech who coordinates everything and is the brains behind all the delicious and healthy food.
She and her husband, Itzik, who is also the President of the synagogue, are truly wonderful, caring, and giving people and a role model for all of us--and it's not just the cooking!
B'tayavon everyone and Chag Sameach! ;-)

Begone With Daylight Savings Time
It serves no functional purpose and is actually a negative for society overall.
Originally devised to have longer daylight in the Summer months by moving the clock forward an hour, it was also thought to save electricity by having more daylight.
However, research on the energy savings have had at best mixed results and the extra hour of sunlight in the evening in Summer with sunset extending to after 9 pm is necessary why???
Let's face it...it is stupid to move the clocks twice a year "springing forward" in the Spring and "falling back" in the Fall.
Aside from the nonsense of actually having to move the clocks, it is disruptive and unhealthy to our sleep and other bodily patterns--was anyone else up too early for work this morning and hanging around until it was actually time to go in?
And it's not only people's bodily cycle that gets messed up, but animals too. One of my colleagues complained this morning about their dog needing to go out for their walk early this morning--apparently, the dog didn't get the message about daylight savings time.
Time is not something to mess with--it should be stable like the other natural cycles of good 'ol Mother Nature--that we depend on as the "Laws of Nature!"
We don't change the number of days in December from 31 to 32 (taking it from perhaps October, which we can easily cut back on to 30 or 29 days) to extend the joyous holiday and the shopping season which is good for economy.
We also don't mess with the number of days of the week--perhaps, for example, we should shorten the week from 7 to 6 days, so that we can have a more frequent rest cycle and rejuvenate our bodies and minds more frequently. Who wouldn't vote to get rid of Mondays and just start the week with Tuesday instead.
Change is a good thing when it actually has a net benefit to society and it is more than negligible, but continuing to move around the dials on the clock, just because someone woke up one day with another cockeyed idea is not something to keep repeating.
It's time to recognize the bad idea for daylight savings time for what it is and restore stable time like a tick-tock that we can all set our watches consistently to. ;-)

Halloween DC Style
So Halloween in Washington, D.C. is no small deal.
I liked the new spooky Orange Fanta soda cans with the scary lady on it--it really stood out from all the others--Coke, Pepsi, etc.--that were otherwise so boring.
Then there was this other lady riding the Metro in her Halloween outfit--anybody need a nurse?
Let's just say she seems to have evoked some attention on the train.
Even more than another women (lower left) holding 2 baby dolls slumped over backwards in a very unfortunate manner.
One more is Mr. Baywatch lifeguard here, and peering over his shoulder is someone with scary Zombie hallowed out black eyes and sharp growling teeth!
Finally, one of my wonderful colleagues told me about a Halloween party she went to with her male friend.
I asked whether they dressed up.
She said, "yeah," and smiled.
So I asked, "What did you dress up as?"
Well this was a new one for me...
She was dressed up as the jelly side of the sandwich and he was the peanut butter side.
What all this means for this zany holiday, I have no idea...but it's a fun time of year that doesn't go unnoticed by anyone. ;-)

Appreciating Employees @ Holiday Time
So before the holidays, like Thanksgiving, many nice organizations try to do a little something for their employees and let them go home a little early.
It’s a small something that let’s people know they are appreciated, and on top of it, they get to “beat the traffic.”
I heard from someone that one organization was stopping this long time practice, saying that only the very head(s) of the chain of command, could do this for the people…but they didn’t.
Sort of “penny wise and dollar foolish” to take away that little spot-on giving to one’s staff.
It’s goodwill, appreciation, and kindness that is especially appropriate before the holidays for hardworking and good people.
One manager told me how their people especially looked forward to this little gesture, and often came to asking about it with such joy.
So the manager told me that they just said before holiday times, “I’m not looking what time you leave today.”
To me that sounded like genuine leadership, where people are not just treated as “human resources,” but instead “human capital”—something to invest in and not just something to use `willy nilly. ;-)
