It was a fun time at The Amish Experience today in Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania.
One and a half hour bus tour of Amish country.
45 Minute movie about Jacob, an Amish teen, trying to decide whether he wants to be in the outside world or in the Amish one.
And another hour of so tour of an Amish school house and home.
Felt like I learned a lot about their culture (including no TV, internet, electricity [just batteries and solar], and education only through 8th grade).
Honestly, it doesn't seem like they really have much a choice in whether to choose the church and become Amish or leave, because if they choose to leave they are shunned (i.e. excommunicated)!
So you either choose you family, church, community, and a wife (and there is no divorce) or you run off to G-d knows where completely alone and "divorced" from everything you know.
The video is when we stopped at an Amish farm and I went in to the big barn with all the cows.
After so much time on the bus, I needed to ham it up a little and have fun with:
"How now brown cow. It is so nice to eat you! You are beautiful animals. And thank you Hashem for making you!" ;-)
Huge sales at Macy's today. They seem to be trying to get rid of all the merchandise built up during Coronavirus. On line was this stylish lady in an orange dress with a white handbag. On her arm were happy, playful tattoos, including a Minnie Mouse with her tongue out on her upper arm. Life goes on with Disney characters cheering us up with or without a global pandemic. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
Even Sophie the dog wears a mask against Coronavirus. - If giver doesn't wear mask and receiver does - 70% chance of transmission - If giver wears mask and receiver doesn't - 5% chance of transmission - If giver wears mask and receiver wears mask - 1.5% chance of transmission That's doggie good statistics to avoid the Coronavirus plague. People can learn just like dogs. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
Tunnel of love? No, tunnel of luggage. Nothing comes out the same on the other side. This is called bumps and bruises. Still it's a long way to paradise. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
Wondering if this is also part of social distancing. Shopping cart up a pole. No one else up there. Safe from Coronavirus, hopefully. Maybe some illusive toilet paper to be found in the sky mall? Desperate times calling for desperate measures or an anxious society is losing its mind. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
So great today to be back in the Holy Land of Israel. Every time we come, we can literally see how the country has matured and built up even more since just the short time before. Of course, we arrived with a little jet lag but still managed to take a nice walk around the bustling streets of Tel Aviv. The restaurants, cafes, shops, theaters, and culture here is awesome. I guess the toughest thing is deciding what we want to do each day, but that is all part of the adventure. See you tomorrow! ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
This holiday outfit has got to win an award. The matching suit and tie with all the decorative holiday ornaments. The bright red shirt. The tree hat with the star on top. And the dark glasses. Wow, standout city! Where do you get clothing like this? I wonder if I could do this with a menorah too. LOL Happy Holidays to all. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
These holiday earrings have loads of pizazz. Watch them flash red from ear to ear! The funny thing is no one else even notices. What an awesome holiday fashion statement from The Nation's Capital. ;-) (Credit Video: Andy Blumenthal)
This dress was a standout. Superhero dress by D&G. Comic style with the pow and bam! I don't get the pig superhero logo on the jacket and other merchandise next to it. Uh, who wants to wear and look like a pig? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. D&G is off the deep end. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
Went to Wynwood Walls in Miami. The art is just fantastic. Better than the typical museum. So creative. So big. So colorful. So full of life. They took a whole rundown neighborhood and made it cool and great. On December 5, they will be opening the Museum of Graffiti. Can't wait to go back and immerse myself in it! ;-) (Credit Photo: Dannielle Blumenthal)
Just wanted to share this beautiful Moroccan chandelier. Thought this really adds life, color, and culture to any room. I love the mosaic of glass pieces and their vibrant colors and interesting shapes. Set into the brass holders this stunning chandelier is a standout and lights up not only the room, but also perhaps even our lives. ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
Wow, this is such a cool door. Love the red. Love the spikes on the door. Would like a little tougher handle on this. But overall that's a door! ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
This was a funny shirt this lady was wearing on the Metro. It mimics the Sweet 'N Low artificial sweetener logo and says:
Fund R' Low Need a Sugar Daddy
This was one of those shirts that gets your attention. It's different. It plays off a familiar brand. It bright pink, red, and blue and stands out. And it could certainly have a sexual connotation. Anyway, this was a pretty bold shirt to wear into conservative Washington, D.C. But I guess wherever you go, fashion, sexuality, and cash is king. ;-) (Credit Photo: Dannielle Blumenthal)
Wow, these Gucci sneakers were over the top! Thick, thick soles and built up sides. A strap adorning the sneaker with colored-stones (faux gems). Very heavy with a durable kick-a*s feel. All for $1,590 at Bloomingdale's. As we joke as kids with a eastern European "old country" droll, "It's a bargain!" ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
That's when you make a big deal out of nothing. So yesterday, I heard the European version of this as:
Making a mosquito into a mule
Honestly, I like that version a lot better. A mosquito bites and is annoying. But a mule resists and is a very stubborn animal that can drive you crazy. You definitely don't want to make a mosquito into a mule! ;-) (Credit Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
We stopped in at the Flying V Awesome-A-Thon yesterday. How can anything "awesome" not be good? Flying V mixes it up with the arts and culture. They combine theater with wrestling! Essentially, this group tries to add adventure and combat to the more staid dramatic performances. Anything that brings theater more alive is definitely a good thing. We got to sit in on the event organizers doing a live podcast and could definitely see their enthusiasm for "Shakespeare and training" and becoming a success story. Anyway, they did have some snacks at the event, and this colorful bagel was definitely the standout. ;-) (Source Photo: Andy Blumenthal)
