Beautiful Hiking @Harpers Ferry

Hiking the Appalachian Trail, oh so glorious.

The only photo not shown is the large snake we ran into on the rocks on the side of the path.

My wife screamed:

"S-n-a-k-e!"

And we were running for the hills in this direction and that.

We had no idea where she was pointing to.

It was pretty hilarious.

Beautiful Labor Day Weekend

Ok, here's my video today from The Shenandoah River along the Appalachian Trail at Harpers Ferry.

Only I make one little mistake...see if you can pick up on it (everyone can make an oops once in a while--you just got to have a good laugh.)

Also, did you know there are 3 trillion trees in the world?

Sad though that number is almost half from the beginning of civilization and these days we are losing about 15 billion trees a year--that's crazy!

Anyway, I still love nature and G-d's beautiful creation and I give thanks to my maker. ;-)

Survival x 3

So today I learned from Bear Grylls how survival comes in 3s.

That basically, the rule of thumb is that you can live:

- 3 minutes without air.

- 3 days without water.

- 3 weeks without food.

No, I don't intend to test these assumptions--but thanks. ;-)

This "Rule of Three" reminded me on these three kayaks I saw--Red, White, and Blue--navigating the Shenandoah River.

They are together, like three legs of a stool--strong, upright, and moving forward.

I like this rule of thumb and wanted to share with others with might benefit.

Butterflies In The Summer

These are two pictures of beautiful butterflies that I took today while hiking.

The first is a black and white butterfly with some gold accents--it's wings were enormous and it is spread over multiple leaves--it sort of reminds me of Batman.

The second was gold and black with a double wing and a mosaic like pattern--almost like Tiffany glass.

It was amazing see these beautiful creatures up close and actually I was surprised that they stayed still long enough for me to get near enough to snap these photos.

On a hot, lazy day on the Shenandoah River, maybe they gave me this one.

Thank you G-d for the magnificent beauty of the creatures and the Earth that you provide to us.

Tubing Away The Shenandoah

This is a picture from today of people tubing gathered under the Harpers Ferry Bridge in West Virginia.

The hiking along the Appalachian Trail was incredible and the water was warm when we waded in off the river bank.

I have never seen it so busy on the Shenandoah river.

People were rafting, tubing, swimming, huddled on tubes together talking and singing, picnicking, and laying, relaxing, and suntanning on the rocks in the middle of the river.

What a beautiful day--thank you G-d.
