This guy is pedaling this ricksha around town in Maryland, USA.
And it carries messages of hope and peace.
Some examples (visible in the photo):
- "Promote the Olympic spirit."
- "Hope for world peace."
- "Protecting mother earth."
It looks like he could be right off the streets of China or something and transported here to deliver and remind us of these important ideas.
What is interesting to me is that in this day and age of social media and online advertising where messages are often drowned out amidst the daily deluge we get, that here a simple ricksha can grab people's attention and perhaps have a positive influence on them.
With just some subtle messaging along the vehicle's canopy and with pictures and flags around the back.
Perhaps it's not only how much one advertises and promotes, but how thought-provoking and novel it's done.
I don't know how many miles this guy can pedal a day, but I bet he gets more likes than much of the garbage just being throw up online because it's so easy and available for everyone to do. ;-)

Toe Shoes - Little Piggy
I tool this photo on the Metro this morning.
This person is wearing these huge toe shoes and mismatched socks.
Have you ever tried on toe shoes?
It's not like putting on a pair of gloves.
Try lining up and getting each of your toes into these snug shoes.
More trouble than it's worth in terms of looking interesting, different.
Which toe should we start with: "This little piggy went to market. This little piggy stayed home..."
Maybe the only reason to wear these is if you actually want someone to step on your toes--now it's all too toe transparent. ;-)

Eye On Jacket
I took this photo of a women's jacket with a big blue eye on on the back.
Thought this design was truly eye-catching!
Wonder how many women out there would actually wear something like this.
Is this alluring or freakish?
Got to love fashion, especially when it pushes the bounds and makes us take a second look or think about how cool is that. ;-)

Color Me Different
I saw this restaurant and followed the color in to take this photo.
They had these multi-colored figurines lined up proudly on the ledge overlooking the tables and patrons.
Each was different, but also the same.
They had no faces, and were cut this way and that into segments of color (head, torso, butts, arms, legs, feet)...uniformity, but diversity.
They are low-tech, but reminded me of robots or toy soldiers, but without the guns--just standing in colorful attention ushering people in to sit and eat and enjoy. ;-)

Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee
This was a photo outside the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
These men in the HAZMAT-looking outfits may have absolutely nothing to do with NRC, but they sure did look the part.
Almost like playing dress-up as kids, but when adults do it--it can definitely look like a lot more forboding.
Another day in the life of the D.C. Capital Region, but also making me think of Grease--Look At Me I'm Sandra Dee.

Strange Leggings
Took this photo in the mall of this very strange looking pair of leggings.
Sort of an ancient Egyptian style complete with princess, gold, and a cast of phony "G-ds"--sun, falcon, tiger, and more.
Not sure who would actually wear these, but all the power to them.
They are made so you "Walk like An Egyptian"--Go Bangles!
Can you hear me sing it? ;-)

Now That's A Plug!
I turn to my wife and daughter and ask if they think it would be okay for me to ask him about them.
After the look at him and me a couple of times back and forth, I get the nod, okay.
First, I had no idea those disks in his ears were called plugs.
(Now I'm a Jewish kid from the Bronx, and to me earplugs are what I use for swimming!)
I asked innocently, "How did you get your lobes that big?"
He then described this process where you start with an earring in your earlobe and over time, you stretch the hole with larger and larger insets.
He had been doing this for 8 years, but confessed that his holes could've been much larger by now.
I asked, "Do you ever take them out?"
He told me sure at night, and for showering, swimming, etc.
Curious, I inquired what he does about the big flappy earlobes when the plugs aren't in.
The young man said, "It's no problem....it just hangs there."
At this point, I thank him for talking with me, but now am laughing at the conversation as I read it over, and happy to be a little innocent and even naive to some things. ;-)

Cash And Books
I took this photo in downtown Washington, D.C. today.
It was interesting to me for a number of reasons.
First, the amount and variety of advertising here (and there was more that is not even pictured here) was a little bit incredible, especially in light of the single customer at the stand.
Second, this vendor is buying the books back from the university students at a hotdog stand--yeah, more than a little weird, no?
Aside from the fact that students pay an exorbitant amout for textbooks and then get pennies on the dollar back, now you are encouraged to make your transaction with a street vendor in the cold of December.
Anyway, you think anyone will notice this cash for books stand? ;-)

Dress With Air Conditioning
This lady in Florida is wearing a dress that is closed/covered up in front, but open--except for these threads, literally--in the behind.
I am fairly sure this was not cheap and someone definitely put a lot of thought into designing it.
It certainly gets some attention as it's a little unexpected.
Anyway, she was actually a very nice lady who helped me with some ties.
A good dresser too. ;-)

Exclamation, No Point
Thought this guy had a really interesting shirt...
Just an exclamation mark (nothing else)!
But what's the point of the exclamation mark?
An exclamation mark denotes emphasis--but on what is the emphasis here--is it just on him as a person?
I like the shirt...it says I feel strongly...I am human, and things have meaning to me.
I guess if you want to know the details about what he feels strongly about, you'd have to get to know him better or ask.
Maybe that's the point, the exclamation is that I am worth getting to know...my life has emphasis and meaning...just check me out. ;-)
