Oriental Glass Sculpture

Love the smooth pink and white glass.

Amazing how the hats and robes give them the oriental flair.

Not sure what the dirt is on the arm of the one on the left (maybe it just wipes off).

But they each cost $14,500!  ;-)

Lime Green Bowl

Wow, this is a standout bowl for any table.

The lime green floating in the waves of this glass is amazing.

Never thought I'd be mesmerized by anything green that wasn't in nature!  ;-)

In Case Of Emergency

In case of emergency...

Break glass and eat chocolate.

Always keep a large Hershey's Chocolate around just in case! ;-)

Gorilla Glass For Smartphones

Loved this packaging with the gorilla!

Intuitively, it's for tempered Gorilla glass for protecting your smartphone screen.

If your smartphone can survive this gorilla (King Kong), then it will work just fine almost no matter what.  ;-)

Seeing It Through Glass

This was a nice glass display at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Somehow they make everything look so cool.

The designer clothing from floor to ceiling doesn't hurt.

But seeing it through the lens of these glass balls only adds to the pricey out-of-world experience. ;-)

Beautiful Moroccan Chandelier

Just wanted to share this beautiful Moroccan  chandelier.

Thought this really adds life, color, and culture to any room.

I love the mosaic of glass pieces and their vibrant colors and interesting shapes.

Set into the brass holders this stunning chandelier is a standout and lights up not only the room, but also perhaps even our lives. ;-)

Rainbow Card Display

Thought this was a cool, even if rudimentary, museum display.

Instead of postcards in the display holder, they put colored glass.

Then just let the sun shine in and look at the awesome wall display.

Might be fun to swap around to get different patterns and blends.

As a kid, I always used to turn the display to see what just around the bend, in this case you get the disco effect.

Color and light play nice together.  ;-)

The Passover Menorah

It's Passover this week, not Chanukah.

So what's with the menorah?

Well my friend, John Akkus (of Akkus Silver Touch), made this beautiful piece for me.

I love the fine handiwork of copper, brass, crystals, Jewish symbols (Stars of David) and bold colors of this amazing menorah.

John sells his art at the annual Suglarloaf Festivals in the Spring.

I am so glad I found this wonderful menorah--it is beautiful all year long (through Chanukah and Passover).

Thank you John and nice job!  ;-)

Simple And Beautiful

Thought this was a nice touch on the table.

Just a simple drinking glass with a little water on the bottom and these three beautiful flowers inside.

Pink, Yellow, Orange.

So simple, yet so beautiful.

Maybe that's the point. ;-)

Jailbird Freedom

So I'm doing laps in the indoor pool.

And out of the corner of my eye, I see this bird swoop in overhead.

But it's not outside, it's inside the building enclosure.

The bird dived in through an open door.

Now it was stuck inside.

It perched itself on a shelf overlooking the outdoors.

But it was stuck behind the glass walls.

The lifeguard tried to swoop it out with the sticks, brushes, and nets for cleaning the pool.

But this bird wasn't going anywhere.

I asked if it was injured or sick.

He said that the bird was scared, which made sense.

Over and over again, the lifeguard tried to coax the bird out.

Finally, it took flight and headed straight into another glass pane--BONG--and fell down--SPLAT--onto another ledge.

The lifeguard and I looked at each other -- asking whether the bird was still alive or not.

I suggested he call for help, and the advice he was given was just to leave it alone and that eventually, it would find its way out.

It was time for me to go, but I am still thinking about that trapped bird.

If you love something, you have to let it free.

Everyone and everything should be free (unless they've abused that freedom).

Free to come and go, free to express themselves, free to choose, free to act.

Sometimes when you're free, you run into trouble or into a glass pane.

You need to find your way out and home again to freedom. ;-)

Shabbat Candle Holders with Gorgeous Flowers

These are our new Shabbat candlestick holders.

So colorful, and full of nature and life, and it makes me happy.

I just wanted to give a callout to Mira (Pinki) Krispil from Ashdod, Israel who makes this beautiful artwork.

Her expertise is in using polymer clay and glass and making it very special.

You can find her Mira's wonderful work on Etsy.

Enjoy and Shabbat Shalom!

A Bottle Revolution

How many of you feel sort of disgusting every time you take out the trash with bottles and containers?

According to Earth911, only 27% of plastic and 25% of glass ends up getting recycled, with the majority ending up instead in landfills.

This is one reason that I really like the new eco.bottles made by Ecologic, a sustainable (i.e. green) packaging company.

The containers are made of two parts:

- The inner plastic pouch that holds the liquid and snaps into the second part.
- The outer shell made of 100% recycled cardboard and newspaper (and in turn is 100% recycable again).

These containers result is a net 70% plastic reduction!

Yet, they have the same strength and functionality of plastic containers, with comparable results in drop, ship, and moisture tests.

And companies like, Seventh Generation, a leader in sustaibable cleaning, paper, and personal care products have signed on and is using eco.bottles, and they have seen sales increase 19% with it.

In a Bloomberg BusinessWeek (25 October 2012) article, the chief operating officer of The Winning Combination states: "The minute you look at it, you get it. This is a bottle that's good for the planet."

Like these eco.bottles, we need more of our decisions to be driven by what is good for us long-term, so this is not just a revolutionary green bottle, but perhaps a true sustainable evolution in our thinking and behaving all around.

Glass, More Than Just Window Dressing

This is FANTASTIC!

Video by Corning on glass uses for the future and what a future it is going to be (G-d willing).

Called: "A Day Made of Glass...Made possible by Corning."

This made me want for more of these capabilities NOW.

Imagine everything you do, but doing it better with glass display powered by technology and lots of information--all around you, as you need it!

I was aware of Corning's use of glass in high-tech ways for fiber optics transmission (i.e. Internet) and for the Hubble Telescope.

Now so many types of glass for seemingly every functional area of our lives...

  • Photovoltaic
  • LCD Television
  • Architectural
  • Surface
  • Appliance Veneer
  • Handheld
  • Automotive
  • Large-Format
  • All Weather
  • Wall Format
  • Work Surface
  • Electronics Ready
  • Large Panel
  • Flexible
  • 3-D TV
  • Portable

Smart products, great vision, and a future that I want to buy into.

Thanks to my relative, Alex S. for sending this video my way.
