What's The Big Fascination?

From Victoria's Secret to colorful art renditions, medieval metal, and cross-dressing on the neighborhood corner...

This does not seem to be about being angels, unchaste, or even "sexy-wexy "(as I think my mother-in-law calls it).

So I really have to ask what is all the fascination about here?

Culturally, we seem to be a little OCD.

If Martians visited us, I don't think they would understand us at all.

Frankly, I'm not sure that I do either!  ;-)

Floppy Disk Earrings

So this was an interesting technology fashion statement.

This lady in Washington, D.C. has earrings that are floppy disks.

One full diskette on each ear!

I guess not only can she wear them, but she can plug them into her computer at work and save or transfer files (that is if you can still find a computer that actually uses these).

It makes you think though, from a cybersecurity perspective, what other devices can people "wear" to work and use for good or malicious purposes.

Another scary thought came to mind, how suicide/homicide bombers strap vests with explosives to their bodies too--do terrorists also adhere to a certain "style" even for murdering people?

Anyway, fashion can be almost anything apparently...if you can find a way to put it on you body. ;-)

Valentine's Day Fashion Wow!

Now, how perfect is this guy's suit?

I can't imagine who would make such a thing, but WOW!

This guy is a walking Mr. Charming.

Forget the sales job in the jewelry store, I would put him right on the "The Bachelor" season whatever.

Who isn't going to fall in love with this guy?
"Matchmaker matchmaker make me a match.
Find me a find.
Catch me a catch."
Love wins over hate...

Happy Valentine's Day!  ;-)

Israel Style

Today we walked around Tel Aviv and went to the Art Museum here and also the stores, grocery, and cafes.

What I really liked was seeing it up close and not from the back of a tour bus.

After just a day or so, I started to feel like I was really experiencing life here.

Crossing Menachem Begin Road, we ran into these fashion-conscious ladies.

The colorful clothes and hair, the tall blue shoes, the ripped leggings of the women on the left definitely stood out.

Juxtaposed is the lady on the right in the black dress, short haircut, bag, and glasses.

This pair was a standout!

In a way, I miss the Holy lifestyle of Jerusalem here in Tel Aviv, but at the same time, I like the cosmopolitan and modern life here too.

Anyway, I feel like I am learning a lot and enjoying experiencing culture and religion Israel-style.

Treating The Homeless With Dignity

I love this organization, Think Dignity.

They do hands-on advocacy and activism to help the homeless.

From providing them storage lockers, bathrooms, showers, haircuts/shaves, clothing boutique, hygiene products (e.g. tampons etc.), drinking water, legal services, and more.
While others looks away, they jump in to actually do something real.

They actually bring mobile showers to them!

The video show on the left, one person living a regular life with a home, job, and everything they need, and on the right, another person down on their luck, homeless and needy.

Both are G-d's creatures--one just needs a fresh start!

At the end of the video, it says:

Don't Look Away.
Think Love.
Think Hope.
Think Strength.
Think Worth.
Think Dignity.
I hope you are truly moved in the same way that I am by this organization and their beautiful mission and meaningful outreach activities. ;-)

Brighten Your Mondays

So a colleague asked me why I wear bright, happy ties on Mondays.

Well, I explain, I guess it's a combination of two reasons:

1) I'm starting the week all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed coming off the weekend energized and ready for a brand new and exciting week.

2) I'm trying to counter what many consider the "Mondays Blues" and make them brighter and more cheerful for everyone.

- Smile and the whole world smiles with you!

So the other person responds, as if all the craziness of the office and organizational psychos during the week will somehow wear down my good cheer:

"So by the time you get to Fridays, what are you wearing black ties???"

I guess everyone knows the workweek is the workweek.

And they don't call it work for nothing. ;-)

@Takoma Park Folk Festival

So today we were at the Takoma Park Folk Festival.

It was a combination of food, chachkas, art, dance, and music--thank G-d, it was a good time!

When we were going through the booths, I came across this one artist pictured here.

A little scary looking at first, but actually seemed nice enough and he stopped to speak with us.

I asked about his very cool jacket.

And he told me, how he had actually made it with all the artistic things on it, including spikes, skulls, medals, patches, and even a pair of teeth!

Then he took off his jacket and turned around to show me his vest.

On the back was this awesome fighting foe.

I said feigning surprise:
"Oh, and it says RESIST on top?"

He replies:
"Yeah, never miss an opportunity to share a message!"

I thought to myself this guy is pretty smart, especially as he started to explain not only his jacket, but the meanings behind some of his other artwork.

Creativity is a wonderful thing--especially when no one gets hurt :-)--and it immediately sparks interest and dialogue.

How'd you do that?  What gave you that idea?  How do you use it?

The boring becomes exciting when another soul expresses itself.

Yes, we're all the same, but also we're all different!

It's by "going there," you explore and learn new things.  ;-)

These Pants Are In Vogue

I just thought these women's pants were so cool (yet gaudy).

Another standout you think.

A fashion magazine making up fashionable ladies pants.

The covers are bright, colorful, and feature a array of many women and looks up and down each pant's leg.

The pants are a collage of these all.

These pants are probably not for the faint of heart--you've got to have courage to wear these.

Some might say, you'd be crazy...

A ladies next dilemma--what shoes do you wear with these?  ;-)

Memorial Day Stars and Stripes

Loved this lady's sweater of the American Flag.

So cool with the stars on the sleeve like that.

I thought this was especially nice for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

As we remember those that have sacrificed so much, and the many that have fallen making the ultimate sacrifice, so that all we could be free.

"In the olden days," they used to say America was the "goldene medina"--the golden country--the land of opportunity!

But really, the gold itself is just fools gold, the real greatness of being here is the freedom to be who you are and to have the human rights and protections to pursue whatever your dreams are.

Maybe that's what the stars on the flag are really all about--we can all reach for the stars--whatever stars we want--and many will actually be able to achieve the impossible. ;-)

People Nutrition

This is an risque t-shirt this lady is wearing.

It's a big nutrition label.

And she's wrapped in it!

I'm not sure if this is a gag or fashion statement or even a sexual thing.

Is she advertising that she's like the food?

What was really funny though is by her butt...it says

"Moschino chocolate tastes good."

Maybe that should be a black box warning!

Uh, this is way too much information for me. ;-)

Indian Wedding Rocks

Loved seeing this amazing Indian wedding.

The rocking music, the beautiful colorful outfits, the pageantry, and the adorned white horse.

While this looked like a relatively small and intimate wedding--perhaps quality balances out quantity.

Although one of my good friends from India told me that he had 4,000!!! people at his wedding that was held in a stadium--I can barely even imagine how awesome that was.

So happy...all life should be great times like this. ;-)

Tznius Police

So there is an important concept in Judaism as well as other religions of modesty for the sexes.

This means appropriately covering up in dress and acting modestly.

In Hebrew, we call it Tznius!

As kids, I remember the kids used to sing, "Tznius, don't show you knee-ius."

It seems like these days, "everything goes," where extreme sexuality in public and showing off is the rage.

But as I remember the older generation saying, "Maybe some things are better left to the imagination."

That doesn't mean we need to be a bunch of prudes--inhibit or prohibit people from being who they are.

Freedom means everyone is allowed and has a fundamental right to self-expression.

But also, people that want to show more restraint and modesty can do that too.

Perhaps, sometimes things in our society can get a little too superficial, where like and love is only skin deep.

We forget the inner person and the soul in lieu of momentary pleasures of the flesh.

I don't think we need the tznius police to come out and tell us what to do, but rather that we need to be consider people inside and out for what and who they really are. ;-)

Wardrobe Malfunction Or Stylish

So I got to personally witness a spectacular wardrobe malfunction today.

It's not often in Washington, D.C. that we get to see someone in a bright blue suit jacket with flowers.

Obviously, this is a pretty conservative dress town.

Some might call it rather style boring or even nerdy.

However, this brave guy went out on a limb and stood out like a sore DC thumbnail.

Actually, I believe it's nice to add some color, flair, and style and light up the room and the faces.

Too much gloominess and depression here at times.

I was so excited when someone actually called me "Happy Tie!"

Then everyone took a turn showing off their colorful socks to each other.

It takes so little to turn a room of people joyful and laughing.

Honestly, we need more of this, and why not be a contributor to people's happiness and smiling?

Emperor Has No Clothes

What happens when the emperor has no clothes?

That's when we get fake news and alternative facts.

These days we don't know what to believe anymore because institutions and media have lost so much credibility with bias, prejudice, and trying to influence based on overtly selfish motives.

The gloves have come off in the fight for supreme earthly might.

Apparently, a lot of other clothes have come off too.

Now the influencers stand naked before us and we must judge for ourselves the truth of the matter.

It funny-sad that in their utter nakedness, they bear no shame.

They scream, and hissy fit, protest, rage, demean, threaten and commit violence.

Ear lobes are dangling as are the other parts and still there is no listening, negotiating, or compromise.

Advancement is limited to obstruction, and progress is dead like a heap of dung.

The nation suffers the marks in the flesh of bitter fighting, while our competitive advantages are eroded.

United we used to stand, and divided for a decade we are falling.

We can dive into the pile of clothes and swim among them, but still we are sinking naked and stinking the lot like selfish bastards, indeed. ;-)

Graffiti Blood Fashion

Thought this was a really cool fashion design skirt that I saw in Neiman Marcus.

Aside from all the colors, the design is just eye-taking.

Almost like graffiti on a skirt!

Hey, I think that would make a great business for someone(s) by the way.

Give me a call...and we'll start it up and make a $ billion--I hope!

Seriously, this skirt is so interesting with a scare theme of monsters, heart, teeth, and blood.

But the fright is quickly turned into envious fashion style as a complete standout item.

Gorgeous design and style, and I definitely see a fashion trend emerging here big time. ;-)

We All Have It In Us

So this is a very cool sweat jacket with the Superman and all look.

We all like to think of ourselves as possible superheroes.

Whether we dress the role or not, the most important thing is acting it.

Every day, we face circumstances and decisions and we have to decide whether we rise up to the occasion as the superhero or we acquiesce to what's easy or lucrative and do the villain thing.

From the time we are kids, we glorify the superheros not just for the awesome cool powers they have, but for doing something amazing to help people and the world with it.

Somewhere from being a kid to a grown-up, many people end up letting go of that superhero dream as they face the harsh realities of life everyday.

But deep down inside all of us is that superhero!

Good over evil is not just a story for children's bedtime or imagination, but it is our battle to be fought and won--that's what a good life is for those that never lose their fundamental beliefs. ;-)

Best Diplomacy Shirt

I took this photo in the Metro, so I apologize for the poor lighting.

But never-the-less, to me, this wins for best diplomacy shirt.
"Respect All
Fear None"
In dealing with others at home and abroad, we must respect everyone.

And this is not just paying lip service to others while really giving a tacit nod to derision and divisiveness.

Rather we need to have genuine respect for all people, cultures, religions, freedom and human rights.

At the same time, we must fear no one.

We need to carry a big stick, as my grandfather used to say.

That along with plenty of carrots (but used strategically and not wastefully) to positively influence the good in others.

The point is that disengagement, appeasement, and weakness benefits no one.

Rather, it encourages violence, destruction, and refugees, and global disorder.

It's time to stop fearing and running, and to make a firm stand for good and meaningful things that we really believe in.

We are not the police of the world, but we are smart, and good, and powerful, and will project and use that power wisely to ensure that good prevails over evil, always. ;-)

Style From Head To Toe

So I took these photos of two young fashionable men.

The first had a very cool "Death" cap on.

And the second had the reddest pair of sneakers, I've ever seen.

Both were stylish standouts!

To me, the hat confronted the scariness of death head-on (excuse the pun) or that the person is themselves, in a sense, death to anyone that starts with them or gets in their way--it is not only bold in terms of the big white letters, but in terms of the courage to face the harshest of all our realities.

Then to the shoes, going red and untied, spoke to me in terms of looseness, comfort, and ease with yourself--you are who you are and the world be darned!

Both the cap and the shoes are in your face and make a statement of cool nonchalance and the daringness to confront "whatever." ;-)

Hate Ties, But Love These

I hate neck ties in general, but love these specifically.

If you have to wear a tie, these strong gorgeous silk ones called Quindici by Ermenegildo Zegna are absolutely beautiful.

At a retail price of $285 each at Nordstrom's, they are not cheap, but what a powerful and confident accent for any formal outfit.

These are all for me! ;-)
